English hymnwriter and theologian, Frederick William Faber (1814-1863), wrote the hymn “Faith of Our Fathers” in 1847. The lyrics reflect upon an inspiring vision of faith at work.
Every vision will be made real if we have patience. Think of the enormous leisure of God! He is never in a hurry.
From Isaiah 35:6b-7a: “For waters shall break forth in the wildernessand streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pooland the thirsty ground springs of water.”
Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher. Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons. Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST. I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.
From Genesis 1:1-3: “When God began to create the heavens and the earth, the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”
From Genesis 2:1-3: “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all their multitude. On the sixth day God finished the work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all the work that He had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that He had done in creation.
Faith gives you an inner strength and a sense of balance and perspective in life.
You have to dream, you have to have a vision, and you have to set a goal for yourself that might even scare you a little.
