The remedy for discouragement is the Word of God. When you feed your heart and mind with its truth, you regain your perspective and find renewed strength.

From Isaiah 26:4:  “Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord God you have an everlasting rock.

Warren Wiersbe (1929-2019) was an American pastor and Christian writer.  His journey as a Christian teacher was prolific with publication of over 50 books.

From Ephesians 3:18-19: “I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

R. A. Torrey Quote

Prayer that is born of meditation upon the Word of God is the prayer that soars upward most easily to God’s listening ears.

From Hebrews 4:12: “Indeed, the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

R. A. Torrey (1856-1928) was an American Christian evangelist and Bible teacher. Reuben Archer Torrey also served as pastor, educator, and writer.

Hope’s Embrace

From the words of English preacher, Charles Spurgeon: “God alone can give us songs in the night.”

Photo by Kathrine Birch on Pexels.com
Landscape’s light seems distant
Worry consumes another heart
Faith’s tattered fabric breathes
Darkness tears life apart

Light’s breath offers mercy
Truth transcends throughout Father’s Word
With each hour, called to trust
Holy Spirit now stirred

Heavens’ cascading light
Thoughts nurtured, turning to prayer
Blessed psalms heard at night
Evidence Father cares

Love shaped by Savior’s light
His promises shall overcome
Valley’s shadow of death
Broken in smallest crumbs

Light’s expansive nature
Abundantly flowing with grace
Blindness lifted away
Faith swells from hope’s embrace

From Mark 5:35-36: “While he was still speaking, some people came from the synagogue leader’s house to say, ‘Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?’ But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the synagogue leader, ‘Do not be afraid; only believe.'”

Monday Memories: Buried Faith

From the words of American pastor and Christian author, A. W. Tozer:  “Faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God.”

Photo by Brady Knoll on Pexels.com

Winter’s lost, snow-covered faith

Father’s presence, long frozen

Buried faith, under deep drifts

Lack of any hope, blows in

Christ melts each frozen glacier

Ice turns to living water

Holy Spirit flows with hope

God’s Word molds, as faith’s potter

Spring arrives, God’s Holy love

Maturing into life’s fruit

Flowering trees, witness faith

Hope emerging, each new shoot

Resurrection brings new life

Hungry faith springs with fresh growth

Spirit warms forgotten hearts

Faith then hope, Christ unearths both

From Proverbs 3:3-4:  “Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.  So you will find favor and good repute in the sight of God and of people.”

Dietrich Bonhoeffer Quote

The richness of the Word of God ought to determine our prayer, not the poverty of our heart.

From Psalm 118;24:  “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

German-born Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) was a Lutheran pastor, theologian, and anti-Nazi dissident.  Many of his writings express the role of Christianity in mankind’s daily lives.  He paid the ultimate price for his activism against the Nazi regime during World War II.

His Holy Presence

From Isaiah 58:2:  “Yet day after day they seek Me and delight to know My ways, as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness and did not forsake the ordinance of their God; they ask of Me righteous judgments; they want God on their side.”

Knowing God always near

Mercy rises in darkness

Trusting as His love always steers

Early dawn wakens

Fulfilling God’s glory

Witnessing His blessed light

Writing faith’s renewing story
