Gentle Sounds

Morning rain has marooned me at home

A brisk walk delayed, but never alone

Drinking coffee, another cup please

Addicted to caffeine with such ease

The early morning darkness

Stands ready in its stillness

The window is cracked open, just a bit

Hearing marvelous sounds, makes a hit

Pausing to listen and begin to write

Sounds of pleasure, being so right

Falling droplets of rain earn a trip down

Splashes on the deck, a relaxing sound

Song birds croon from atop tall trees

Sounding splendid, joyous, and free

Wet roads, close by, signal more

Amplifying car tires, ready to roar

An approaching plane flies overhead

Traveling on to Rickenbacker instead

A pair of geese flies through the sky

Their unique greeting says good-bye

My pen scratches delicately away

Listening to ink-filled words today

Simply enjoying an outlook from outside

Bringing life’s gentle sounds to me inside

“Rickenbacker” refers to Rickenbacker International Airport, south of Columbus, Ohio.  The facility provides space for civil, military, and commercial aviation needs in the central Ohio area.  The airport’s namesake is Eddie Rickenbacker, a World War I flying ace from Columbus.

Walking to Daylight

At morning, walking in total darkness

Filling a world with a silent quietness

A full moon illuminates the crystal clear sky

Brightening a walker’s thoughts, time flies

The frigid, morning air washes across a face

Sending a wintry breath filled with cold taste

A layer of garments safeguards from the chill

Walking for an hour awakens a sluggish will

An early, morning walk isn’t for the weak of heart

Feeling somewhat better now after a dismal start

A series of shadows dance around a home

Making a soul feel remote and quite alone

All eyes must stay alert on the sidewalk

Signaling when an uneven surface stalks

The mood is set for a moving conversation

Hearing God’s Biblical word brings sensation

A mindful heart beckons to come through

Creating an intimacy with a Lord so true

The walk’s pace continues to march right along

Allowing this rendezvous with time that’s long

The eastern sky begins to brighten with light

Bringing an end soon to this walk of delight

Another early morning walk will come again

Walking to daylight with Christ as my friend

Do you look forward to early morning walks?  If so, what do you like most about such an activity?

Foggy Rain

IMG_20190206_121952337.jpg

Morning arrives filled with much rain and fog

The view outside looks more like soggy smog

The arrival of another day brings a new, fresh start

Hopefully a writer’s words will be like a work of art

Twinkling street lights appear through the wet haze

The sun’s illumination will remain hidden all this day

Sounds of rain splashing against the window’s glass

This morning mist looks to find a home at long last

Perhaps the intense rain will inspire a pen to write

Maybe words will arrive with impressions so right

The calmness evaporates as a gentle wind arrives

The steady rain matures as its intensity thrives

Rain hurls through the air in a sideways manner

The large drops sound as loud as a jackhammer

Lightning flashes across the foggy, gray sky

Rumbling thunder echoes as if a jet flies by

The worn, wooden planks of the patio deck shine

A slippery sheen generates added beauty so fine

The sky lightens up for a moment or two

Nature’s own light offers a beautiful view

Now the rain restarts with amounts far too much

Flooding may bring for some an absence of luck

The day will continue to be soggy and wet for all

At least this poem has answered a writer’s call

Morning Rain

Raining heavily, this quiet Monday begins abnormally slow

Foregoing my usual morning walk, creating a tranquil flow

Drinking the day’s first cup of coffee, feeling absolutely fine

Enjoying the calmness and gray skies, for yet another time

Reading from the Bible, reflecting on God-inspired devotions

Feeling relaxed and silently focused, without much emotion

Listening to favorite old songs, tuning up a heartfelt smile

Realizing that my bike waits again, for some indoor miles

Praying to the Lord that my family enjoys a great day

Knowing that He will bring them peace along the way

Editing some poetry lines, now looking nearly ready to post

Searching for another thought, crafting words which boast

Appreciating another morning, more than ever before

Absorbing it into my soul, feeling delightfully restored

Looking forward to tomorrow morning, whatever it brings

Facing a day flowing with rain, lifting up this heart to sing

Morning Ramblings

walnutwoodssunrise

Waiting patiently for the morning hours to pass by

Wearing pajamas and slippers—let the time fly!

Drinking another cup of coffee to warm the heart

Hoping those dreadful ailments won’t begin to start

Taking so many pills has become a daily chore

Looking ahead to a future and say—“No more!”

Hearing activity outside pulls one’s attention away

Seeing a few of the neighbors who are busy at play

Sitting lazily around with not very much to do

Dreaming of a future day with an exciting view

Viewing a whole hour of “The Price is Right”

Realizing that some people watch TV ‘til night

Watching out the kitchen window offers very little hope

Feeling pulled back to bed along a taut and stretched rope

Striking Noon, the clock says that another morning is finally done

Hoping to return to sleep, and wake-up again to the daybreak sun

Morning Walk

Waking from my sleep on a dark, chilly day

Preparing for another early morning to play

Pulling on my warm jacket and stocking cap

Heading out the door without need of a map

Making this early morning journey once again

Walking down a street where many have been

Moving hurriedly while struggling with numbing, frigid air

Searching a pocket to discover my gloves are not a pair

Being discovered, a nervous rabbit hops away

Seeing me, he certainly doesn’t desire to play

Crossing the street, a black cat stares back

Slithering away, she doesn’t cross my path

Freezing my face, the frosty air feels bitterly cold

Hurrying along with a pace that is rapid and bold

Early Morning Moments

Watching the flame dance in early dawn

Feeling the warmth of a new born fawn

Warmed by an early morning, blazing fire

Viewing a hungry deer jumping over a wire

Enjoying a comforting warmth from the fireplace

Seeing a startled pair running to a new place

Dreaming of a day to stay inside by the flames

Looking out of a window to see deer playing games

Morning Coffee

Smelling the rich aroma on another early morn

Anticipating the initial taste, like being reborn

Certainly one cup will not be enough today

A second cup causes worries to fade away

As Dolly Parton sings, “Pour myself a cup of ambition”

Coffee will definitely be my regular morning addiction

Waking up on a chilly, frosty, dark day

Jumping out of bed to be on one’s way

Hurrying down to the kitchen, what is this?

No coffee!  An empty cup offers no bliss!
