Monday Memories: Morning Venture

Winter’s journey, preparing to expire

Arctic cold and wet snow, moving aside

Back in the neighborhood, spirit on fire

More than ready, empty sidewalk can’t hide

Dressed in layers, protected from the brisk air

Total darkness masks the pre-dawn heavens

Not even the moon can offer a flare

This walk takes off, two hours before seven

The pace awakens long-dormant muscles

Stay alert, skewed sidewalk lurking ahead

Heading for home, the final pace hustles

This quiet journey, beats sleeping in bed

Coming days welcome a season of spring

Allowing more walks, a waiting heart sings

Listen in Silence

From Isaiah 41:1:  “Listen to Me in silence, O coastlands; let the peoples renew their strength; let them approach, then let them speak; let us together draw near for judgment.”

Daily life racing ahead

Bearing with its constant noise

Searching for journey’s beachhead

Father’s mercy transmits poise

Listen in silence, God speaks

Hearing His comforting voice

Quieting peace, each heart seeks

Father calms, let man rejoice

Heaven breathes, stillness exhales

Shining His light, never fear

Leaving dark, wilderness trails

Father leading, always near

Schedule time, only for God

Drawing near, learning His way

Transforming sinful facade

Father’s blessed Word, let’s pray

American writer Madeleine L’Engle captures the essence of meaning found in this poem with these words:  “Deepest communion with God is beyond words, on the other side of silence.”

Savoring Life

Photo by Andre Furtado on Pexels.com

Facing life’s daily quest

Overflowing with dreams

Facing rapids, hard-pressed

Paddling always, downstream

Merging spirit with change

Searching truth’s answer key

Riding each lonely range

Realizing, life shall be

Saddling up with vigor

Savoring life today

Overcoming rigor

Finding another way

Witnessing life’s next stage

Moving over new ground

Exciting silver age

Traveling now westbound

Navigating with ease

Following sunset’s glow

Catching each friendly breeze

Looking for tomorrow

God’s Embrace

From Psalm 85:5-6:  “Will you be angry with us forever?  Will you prolong your anger to all generations?  Will you not revive us again, so that your people may rejoice in you?”

Searching to find peace

Hidden by dark winds

Discomfort arrives

For mankind hath sinned

Touched by God’s embrace

Peace steps into light

Feeling His comfort

Grace washes flesh white

Praying to Father

Hope now reaches out

Finding peace at last

His Word carries clout

Steps walking in faith

God’s love shall not cease

Replacing darkness

Sharing endless peace

From Luke 2:12-14:  “This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom He favors!'”

Praising His Light

From Isaiah 9:2:  “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.”

From Bethlehem, arrives light

Lying in stable’s manger

Humble birth of hope’s Savior

Grace no longer man’s stranger

Shepherds witness God’s glory

Kneeling and praising His light

Justice shall cover this land

Mercy’s, one eternal flight

Christ answers His Father’s call

Saving every tender reed

Light pushes away darkness

Evil shall never impede

Righteousness shall mark all days

Opening each heart and mind

Jesus shall never waver

His light, perfectly aligned

From Isaiah 42:6-7:  “I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.”

Winter’s Evening Cue

Photo by Yunus Tuu011f on Pexels.com

Quiet fog whispers

Hanging above trees

Clouds resting on pines

Mist wanting to freeze

Landscape’s gentle peace

Transcending spirit

Now wanting to rest

Stillness, now hear it

Time ready to pause

Watching scene outside

Afternoon nap calls

Sleepy thoughts collide

Awake, look outdoors

Falling in rhythm

Fresh flakes floating down

Snow’s algorithm

White transformation

Mesmerizing view

Nature’s snowy blanket

Winter’s evening cue

Life’s Center

From Colossians 3:12:  “Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”

Photo by Magda Ehlers on Pexels.com

Living as God’s chosen

Accepting mercy’s grace

Forgiveness, divine gift

Choosing love to embrace

Filling self with kindness

Blessing this very day

Forgiveness, without strings

Following Father’s way

Bearing with each other

Sharing God’s priceless gift

Forgiveness, pass it on

Healing each heart adrift

Receiving peace of Christ

Dwelling deeply within

Forgiveness, Spirit fills

Transforming life of sin

Praising with gratitude

Walking with humble steps

Forgiveness, life’s center

Repenting each misstep

From Colossians 3:13-14:  “Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.  Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”
