Praising His Light

From Isaiah 9:2:  “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.”

From Bethlehem, arrives light

Lying in stable’s manger

Humble birth of hope’s Savior

Grace no longer man’s stranger

Shepherds witness God’s glory

Kneeling and praising His light

Justice shall cover this land

Mercy’s, one eternal flight

Christ answers His Father’s call

Saving every tender reed

Light pushes away darkness

Evil shall never impede

Righteousness shall mark all days

Opening each heart and mind

Jesus shall never waver

His light, perfectly aligned

From Isaiah 42:6-7:  “I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness.”

Falling Short

From Isaiah 1:4:  “Woe, sinful nation, people laden with iniquity, offspring who do evil, children who act corruptly, who have forsaken the Lord, who have despised the Holy One of Israel, who are utterly estranged!”

Rebels and sinners

Destroying mankind

Forsaking our Lord

Always running blind

Evil filled with sin

Facing God’s high court

Shamming His guidance

Always falling short

His wrath pouring out

Avenging life’s foes

Consuming darkness

Always Father knows

Zion falls empty

Trampling God no more

Heeding to listen

Always grace to pour

Savior born on earth

Wielding Gospel’s might

Sharing His mercy

Always Christ’s daylight

From Isaiah 1:18:  “Come now, let us argue it out, says the LordIf your sins are like scarlet, will they become like snow?  If they are red like crimson, will they become like wool?”

John Rawls Quotes

A just society is a society that if you knew everything about it, you’d be willing to enter it in a random place.

Religious faith is an important aspect of American culture and a fact of American political life.

John Rawls (1921-2002) is an American political philosopher.  Some of his writings emphasize the concept of “justice as fairness.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. Quote

A man dies when he refuses to stand up for that which is right.  A man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice.  A man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true.

From Amos 5:23-24:  “Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps.  But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

Competitive Spirit

So much of life keeps score

From elections to sports

Competitive spirit

Churns in daily reports

Life’s clashing resistance

Much at too high a cost

All want to be winners

Loving brothers, now lost

Division without love

Life without sportsmanship

Forgetting our manners

People losing their grip

Imagine Super Bowl

Unresolved final score

Fans calling for justice

Final outcome called for

Pushing aside tension

Leaving muckraker’s trough

Muting all rhetoric

Turning life’s scoreboard off

Father’s Firm Hand

From Psalm 94:1-2:  “Lord, you God of vengeance, you God of vengeance, shine forth!  Rise up, O judge of the earth; give to the proud what they deserve!”

Photo by Sora Shimazaki on Pexels.com

Holy, perfect Father

Bringing justice for all

Earth’s one, ultimate Judge

Love covers, like rainfall

Truest God of vengeance

Providing blessed Grace

Living high in Heaven

Father’s firm hand, in place

Lives thirst for discipline

Teaching knowledge, His Word

Knowing our hollow thoughts

Empty breath, minds stand blurred

Over the roaring seas

On highest mountaintops

Across fertile valleys

Earth’s Judge shall never stop

Gracious to believers

God’s goodness and kindness

Through our faith, accept Grace

Love overcomes blindness

Judging with righteousness

God’s law rules over all

Vanquishing the wicked

Justice builds righteous walls

From Psalm 98:8-9:  “Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy at the presence of the Lord, for He is coming to judge the earth.  He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.”
