From Colossians 3:12: “Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”

Living as God’s chosen
Accepting mercy’s grace
Forgiveness, divine gift
Choosing love to embrace
Filling self with kindness
Blessing this very day
Forgiveness, without strings
Following Father’s way
Bearing with each other
Sharing God’s priceless gift
Forgiveness, pass it on
Healing each heart adrift
Receiving peace of Christ
Dwelling deeply within
Forgiveness, Spirit fills
Transforming life of sin
Praising with gratitude
Walking with humble steps
Forgiveness, life’s center
Repenting each misstep

From Colossians 3:13-14: “Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”
God forgave us without strings and so should we likewise forgive others. So often in the past, I have said to myself that I could forgive a person IF they did something or said something. But God reminded me that He didn’t require anything of me, that Jesus died for me while I was still a sinner. Nowadays, I just forgive, knowing that we are all weak humans making our way through life on earth as we move toward our ultimate destiny. You said it all much more clearly and profoundly than I ever have!

Vickie, I appreciate your past feelings about forgiveness. Years ago when I was a basketball coach, a father became a thorn in my side. Only when I forgave him did the discomfort end.

Susan, I can understand about the difficulty of granting forgiveness. I have learned when I do so, the thorn in my side fades away.

Forgiveness does include a number of other attributes: love, grace, mercy, kindness, humility etc.–just as you’ve highlighted here. I never noticed that before. Forgiveness is like the final exam for all those other traits! If we can sincerely forgive, we’re on our way toward true maturity.

Nancy, your summary is a blessing to read. It reinforces our need to carry forward with forgiveness to others. Our Lord has a special way of teaching us such lessons as we mature in our faith.
