Amy Weatherly Quotes

Friendship is about real, no-filter-needed life.

Friendship involves efforts on both parts.  On your part.  On theirs.  Make your peace with this truth right now or you will forever be disappointed.

Amy Weatherly is an American author who remains active with writing and her down-to-earth blog (amyweatherly.com).

Monday Memories: God’s Masterpiece

From Isaiah 65:17: “For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth; the former things shall not be remembered or come to mind.”

From the beginning of time

God’s creation changes each day

This eternal blueprint conveys mastery

His design takes center stage

His earthly canvas presents wonder

Artistic palette of colors astonish

His imaginative mind never ceases

Earth’s treasures continue to impress

Traveling around this awesome planet

Breathtaking venues await our call

Majestic mountains loom high above

Immense beauty reaches the clouds

Rolling plains shine with beauty

Grasslands thick with green tapestry

Swift rivers travel for months

Mountain-fed water reaches blue seas

Dense forests blanket the terrain

Trees of every description stand

Endless oceans bombard distant shores

Continuous tides frolic with beaches

Wide canyons stretch above rivers

Featuring amazing sculptures and hue

Desert sands infinitely scatter themselves

Continually sifting from God-inspired winds

Days launch with illuminating sunrises

Nights commence when the moon rises

God continues molding and shaping

Praise His incredible creation forevermore

Desmond Tutu Quote

Photo by Liza Summer on Pexels.com

Anger may be justified, but “getting even” won’t make you feel better.

From Ephesians 4:26-27:  “Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not make room for the devil.”

Desmond Tutu (1931-2021) was a South African Anglican bishop and Christian theologian.  He was perhaps best known for his efforts as a human rights activist in dismantling his nation’s system of apartheid.

Hope’s Homecoming (First Sunday of Advent)

From Isaiah 9:2:  “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.”

Awaiting salvation

Praying for His coming

Lord, Savior, Prince of Peace

Crowning hope’s homecoming

Seeking mercy’s refuge

Praying for faith to speak

Rock built with God’s goodness

Boosting hope, small and weak

Sharing God’s depth of love

Praying for grace-filled news

His assurance sows trust

Walking in hope’s new shoes

Inviting our wonder

Praying hearts, blessed with praise

Darkness fades, peace arrives

Lighting hope’s steadfast blaze

One of Advent’s most enduring hymns is “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”  The original text was composed in Latin during the 12th century.  In 1861, English priest and scholar John Mason Neale translated the lyrics into what many Christians recognize and sing today.

Giant Taken Down

Photo by RODNAE Productions on Pexels.com

Saturday’s biggest game arrives

Will football’s underdog survive?

Top-ranked team looking much too strong

Winless team plays losing theme song

Jack-rabbit offense can’t wait long

Slow-moving turtle plods along

 Favored team feeling discomfort

Score remains too close for comfort

Game’s undecided final score

Which team will nail victory’s door?

Gridiron classic’s final big play

Winning touchdown fulfills doomsday

Upset scoring with eager hands

Sending shockwaves across this land

Giant’s beanstalk crashes to earth

New winning streak’s star bursting birth

Hearts back-filling with dark despair

Champion no longer game’s bear

Number “One” ranking bites the dust

Closing winning drive comes up bust

Long live football’s newest kingpin

Ending score etched on game’s pigskin

Featured Facts

The Buckeye State of Ohio was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1803.  The state has proudly claimed to be home of eight  American Presidents:  William Henry Harrison, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James A. Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William Howard Taft, and Warren G. Harding.

Here are a few interesting facts about the state:

  • Motto:  With God, All Things Are Possible
  • Capital City:  Columbus (named after Christopher Columbus)
  • Lake Erie frames the northern border; the Ohio River marks the southern one

In the early 1900s, the Canton Bulldogs were organized as a professional football team.  While the team no longer exists, Canton became the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.  Two major amusement parks are located in the state:  King’s Island near Cincinnati; Cedar Point along Lake Erie at Sandusky.

Answer to Brain Teaser Question

E

A moth, which is a living thing, destroys clothing–just as termite, which is a living thing, destroys a house.  Choices C or D would be fine if they described living things.

Louis Armstrong Quotes

Photo by Luana Bento on Pexels.com

Musicians don’t retire; they stop when there’s no more music in them.

A lotta cats copy the Mona Lisa, but people still line up to see the original.

Louis Armstrong (1901-1971) was a American musician.  As a trumpeter and vocalist, his contributions influenced the evolution of American jazz.  Appropriately, he was born in the city of New Orleans.
