Autumn Sketches

Photo by Taryn Elliott on Pexels.com

August’s final countdown

School campuses alive

Summer’s vanishing breath

Autumn’s changes soon arrive

Dog days’ final heatwave

Students receiving books

Life’s transitioning steps

Autumn paints nature’s crisp look

Calendar page now turns

Summer’s final footsteps

Cooler weather ahead

Autumn’s leaf-colored doorsteps

Landscape’s pace quiets down

While football fans cheer on

Rustling of drying leaves

Autumn sketches, far from gone

Timeless journey transcends

Harvest complete, fields bare

Classrooms find their rhythm

Autumn’s presence everywhere

Autumn’s falling leaves refresh ourselves like sweetest drops of rain.

Herbert V. Prochnow Quotes

Photo by Clem Onojeghuo on Pexels.com

It now costs more to amuse a child than it once did to educate his father.

The best way to remember your wife’s birthday is to forget it once.

Herbert V. Prochnow (1897-1998) was an American banking executive, speaker, and writer.

As Father Planned

From Hebrews 10:23:  “Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who has promised is faithful.”

Worldly treasures

Sparkle every hour

Each temptation

Promises to empower

Never enough

Looking beyond God

Contentment sought

Destiny’s promises flawed

Hearing God’s Word

Faith’s truth becomes known

Sin’s journey fades

Dark promises stand alone

Honesty breathes

Eternity stands

Spirit leads on

Promised grace, as Father planned

Walking with Christ

Following hope’s light

Leaving darkness

Promising love, always bright

From Lamentations 3:22-23:  “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

No one is immune from the temptation to sin, but a willingness to embrace Christ’s light of forgiveness will supplant the darkness.

Billy Graham Quote

Photo by Nothing Ahead on Pexels.com

Too many Christians have geared their program to please, to entertain, and to gain favor from this world.  We are concerned with how much, instead of how little, like this age we can become.

From John 15:19:  “ If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own.  Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”

Billy Graham (1918-2018) was an American Christian evangelist.

As Americans, our nation heals and comes together when we can be open and honest about remembering the failed experiments from our nation’s past.

Langston Hughes Quotes

Photo by Noelle Otto on Pexels.com

Like a welcome summer rain, humor may suddenly cleanse and cool the earth, the air, and you.

Let America be America, where equality is in the air we breath.

Langston Hughes (1901-1967) was an American writer and social activist.  He was an influential leader of the Harlem Renaissance.

Monday Memories: Coming Home

This poem is dedicated to the many lives which have come and gone along the tracks of the Great Northern Railroad from years ago.  Perhaps you can feel the living spirit still riding the Empire Builder passenger train across the Hi-Line of Montana.

Photo by Felix Mittermeier on Pexels.com

Feeling a bit like heaven

Blessed Big Sky, almost home

Paradise spelled as two words

Riding free, spirit’s train roams

Scanning God’s creative touch

Mountains shaped by nature’s hand

Valleys carved out by rivers

Dreaming of this treasured land

Stirring up past memories

Iron horse roaring at top speed

Long ago, been here before

Coming home, spirits now freed

Flashing by Hi-Line’s vast farms

Cropland caresses these tracks

Golden fields of wheat ripen

Waiting for harvest’s comeback

Fading daylight turns to night

Darkness covers Montana’s peace

Town lights twinkle here and there

Thinking back to life’s past lease

Climbing through Marias Pass

Glacier Park saying good-bye

Big Sky’s wonder never fades

Ageless spirit, dropping by
