Voices

From Psalm 4:8:  “I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.”

Lying awake in night’s darkness

Hearing promises from voices

Most too good to really be true

Filled with countless, empty choices

Tackling another stressful day

Witnessing contrasting voices

Thoughts quite overwhelming again

Faltered in making best choices

Retreating into quiet place

Searching, listening to voices

Father’s Word opens mind and heart

Found at last, His trusted choices

Hearing each righteous cry for help

Nurturing Father’s faithful voice

Enemy’s plan reduced to dust

Raised His Son, salvation’s sole choice

Harvesting empty void no more

Walking in step with Savior’s voice

Jesus cries out, journey finished

Saved man with mercy’s final choice

Seeing truth in these promises

Extending Father’s righteous voice

Grace deepens His Son’s love for thee

Accepting Christ, life’s blessed choice

From John 19:29-30:  “A jar full of sour wine was standing there.  So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to His mouth.  When Jesus had received the wine, He said, ‘It is finished.’  Then He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.”

Although every verse in the Bible is inspired by God and given to us for our benefit, we won’t hear His voice unless we make His Word a priority.

From Deuteronomy 8:2-3:  “Remember the long way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commandments.  He humbled you by letting you hunger, then by feeding you with manna, with which neither you nor your ancestors were acquainted, in order to make you understand that one does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

Voices of Silence

Perpetual silence

Earthly life settles down

Thoughts taking vacation

Voices waiting to come around

Quietness tries to speak

Time scatters every voice

Silence wanders alone

Hours bringing little to rejoice

Another day, same drill

Silence opts to remain

Emptiness boarded up

Absent voices filling with pain

Fear overwhelms each voice

Better to retreat now

Silence covers landscape

Boldly taking one final bow

Silence can never win

Voices bring truth to share

Precious to hear each one

Freedom’s spirit removes despair

New Day

New day saying “hello”

Revitalizing voices

Inspirations aglow

Identifying choices

Horizon brightens, stirs

Reawakening today

Morning opens sunrise

Illuminating gateway

Daylight’s rhythmic tempo

Internalizing soundtrack

Soul’s eternal rainbow

Anticipating comeback

Sunset’s fading skyline

Evaporating outlook

Night’s taste of moonshine

Rejuvenating guidebook

Confident Voices

Photo by Ekaterina Astakhova on Pexels.com

Somewhere stands a vacant, empty building . . .

Sometimes wondering

Seeking out hidden voices

Still trying to hear

Holding out, few choices

Listening closely

Imagination unlocks

Now discovering

Shifting life’s gearbox

Another room calls

Peeling paint covers each thought

Wisdom speaking out

Taking another shot

Draining time’s hourglass

Final hours, dreadful waiting

Still so much to share

Speaking words, dictating

Eager wrecking ball

Setting to flatten each room

Confident voices

Transferring to courtroom

Power of Words

Words used every day

Little or much to say

Used in positive ways

Conveying life’s essays

Mindful, powerful voices

Daily, humble choices

Impacting other lives

Celebrate with high fives

Disciplined purpose speaks

Positivity seeks

Sharing tender kindness

Truthful, without blindness

Careful to help and heal

Offering a square deal

Words paying it forward

True and straightforward

Thoughtful expressions said

Weaving with tender thread

Replace evil with good

Words plain and understood

Honest lyrics in song

Carried through all day long

Life unfolds from our text

Watchful where words go next

This poem was written several days before January 6, 2021.  Its intention was to praise and encourage the positive power of words.  The events taking place in Washington, DC on January 6 showed the negative power of words.  How will our future words speak?

Monday Memories: A Whisper

Hearing a far, distant whisper

Delicately spoken

Soothing words

Speaking in a special voice

Familiar sounding

Decades ago

Whispering over and over again

Barely audible

Peacefully said

Taking one on a journey

Distant city

Tranquil feeling

Listening for the whisper again

Silence now

Returning when?
