The Big Game

Ohio State football fans come dressed in Scarlet and Gray

Hoping their beloved Buckeyes will be victorious this day

Michigan fans arrive ready to go in their Maize and Blue

Following their Wolverines with an intense spirit so true

The Big Game has arrived on a cloudy, damp afternoon

Realizing that the winning team will play again very soon

The Big Ten Championship (oh yes!) is once again on the line

Cheering fans from both sides will watch for another time

The game is televised across the nation for all to see

Playing in historic Ohio Stadium—no calmness will be

Both teams are ranked in the top ten across the land

Packing the Horseshoe with Scarlet and Gray is the plan

Coach Meyer and Coach Harbaugh have their teams ready

Remembering legends Woody and Bo will keep them steady

Ohio State scores first with an impeccable scoring drive

Keeping the Buckeyes fans fired up and very much alive

Michigan settles for a pair of field goals as its offense stalls

Bending, but not breaking—the Buckeyes defense stands tall

Early mistakes and penalties plague each team

Trying hard, but not yet settled down it seems

The Scarlet and Gray rally to score twice again through the air

Feeling momentum building, these touchdowns make a great pair

The Maize and Blue respond with a touchdown of their own

Quieting the Buckeyes fans, but no one feels ready to go home

The kick-off is recovered by Michigan—“Shocking, it can’t be!”

Sputtering Buckeyes fans watch in horror, not wanting to see

The game score stands close at 24-19 at halftime

Calling all fans to witness this amazing battle so fine

The Buckeyes offensive line performs its job flawlessly

Allowing quarterback Haskins the time to pass endlessly

The ancient Horseshoe gathers up its ghosts from the past

Finding for the Buckeyes, big plays that will create a blast

The Scarlet and Gray erupts with a climatic, thunderous roar

Watching a blocked punt lead to another Buckeyes score

The overflowing stadium rocks with all of the stops pulled out

Intercepting a Wolverines pass brings another gigantic shout

The Buckeyes have taken over the game for sure

Maintaining their advantage for a victory so pure

Ohio State’s high-octane offense has answered the call

Making Michigan’s top-ranked defense stumble and fall

As the Scarlet and Gray celebrates another awesome game

Flashing from the scoreboard, a score of 62-39 will be framed!

The Big Game finally ends in Ohio State’s favor

Counting seven wins in a row is something to savor

Go Bucks!  You handled that team up North once again!

Thanksgiving Memories

Remembering annual family gatherings from years past

Enjoying special, blessed times which will last and last

Filling Grandma’s packed house with people from near and far

Seeing aunts, uncles, and cousins—as numerous as the stars

Feeling the crisp, autumn air—possibly snow on the ground

Arriving with abundant food and family love to pass around

Pitching in, many helping hands prepare the meal

Eating together on Thanksgiving is a very big deal

Catching up on life from several corners of the state

Thanking the Lord that all arrived safely on this date

Listening to exciting conversation that fills the tiny house

Disappearing from a kitchen corner, a frightened mouse!

Preparing so many favorite and delicious treats

Tasting each will make today an awesome feast

Setting up Grandma’s sizable dining room table with care

Deciding where each family member will sit, here or there

Providing for extra places to eat in the living room

Anticipating that all of us will be eating very soon

Smelling the huge turkey roasting in the oven until finally done

Carving this bird and splitting the wishbone, most delicious fun

Pleasing everyone’s taste buds, with a gathering of yummy dishes

Adding stuffing, mashed potatoes, and yams to everyone’s wishes

Saving room for a sweet symphony of delicious pies

Savoring a slice of pumpkin or many others—Oh my!

Exchanging stories, playing cards, and watching football

Realizing too soon that the time says, “Goodnight to all”

Departing for home, before everyone’s bedtime arrives

Blessing our family time, this thanksgiving feels so alive

Smiling from her large window, Grandma feels so much love

Looking forward to experiencing peace, from the Lord above

A Daughter Born

Anticipating the arrival of a wondrous day

Asking God, “How can this ever be repaid?”

Arriving on an early weekday morn

Witnessing a first daughter born

Experiencing her birth is humbling indeed

Thinking now, there is a little baby to feed

Cradling her in a father’s arms for the first time

Feeling pride swelling deep inside, feels so fine!

Reaching down again to earth, God sends another child

Filling her father’s heart with love so tender and mild

Receiving this daughter is certainly an amazing gift

Making sure that her new life never goes adrift

Realizing now, after so many years of special love

Thanking God again for a “First Noel” from above

Healthy Reversal

Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes a few years ago

Feeling life’s outlook hitting an unsettling low

Hearing new medical terms with much to learn

“Perfect” health now was a major concern

A doctor was honestly blunt with his views

Realizing now that “sugar is poison for you”

Struggling at first to deal with one’s health

Now understanding that life can be full of wealth

Taking one’s health seriously became the norm

Changing this lifestyle to avoid those storms

New routines are well-established right now

There is no need for anyone to use a crying towel

Taking meds, exercising, and eating smart

Feeling that one’s life is no longer falling apart

I am a living example that anyone can retake charge of his or her health and move forward.  About three years ago, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.  For the past two years, my numbers are excellent in terms of blood sugar and cholesterol.

Winter’s Gray Skies

Winter has arrived again in the Buckeye State

Looking forward to memories that we can make

Ohio State Buckeyes look terrific in their scarlet and gray

But gray seems to be the gloomy color of each winter day

The friendly sun is absent on most of these days

People hurry down the street with not much to say

How people long to feel the warmth of Mr. Sun

Only to experience gray skies, which means—no fun!

A sunny escape arrives for all, if only for a short stay

Travel to Montana to experience the Big Sky each day

Everyone welcomes cheerful, sunny skies—without any gray

Perhaps the loyal Buckeye fans should move here and stay

Now Buckeyes everywhere can play and appreciate their time

The Big Sky Country is always a unique place of yours and mine

Waiting Room Moments

Visiting a surgical center on this rainy dawn

Waiting for the procedure to begin with a yawn

A television broadcasts some unfamiliar show

There is little information for anyone to know

From the wall rack, an ancient magazine is found to read

However, morning thoughts are on other tasks and needs

A beautiful painting displays an image of flowers and spring

Oh, trusting that a hidden cell phone doesn’t begin to ring

From a table, one sees a display about the fall season

It presents an alternative to the visit and its reason

The purpose of today’s appointment is clear to all

Let’s pray the test results will make for standing tall

Living a full, long life generates a very joyous time

Hopefully today’s findings will put all on cloud nine
