It hurts to endure life’s trials, and it hurts worse to repeat such episodes. Over the long haul, God is honing us through such tests. Reducing us to an absolute, open-armed trust, where we say, “Lord, I have come to the end of my own flesh.”

From every corner
Darkness forecasting light
Voices filled with emptiness
Now standing firm, God’s faith airtight
One promised ticket
Risen from empty tomb
False prophets flee every scene
Now Savior breathes, faithful hope blooms
Suffering no more
Calvary’s blood-stained cross
Foundation of Father’s grace
Now sin flees, no longer faith’s boss
Mercy from heaven
Angels stir from above
Called to gather Shepherd’s flock
Now faith’s destiny, filled with love

Because He is gracious, God saves us on the basis of faith in His Son. Then He gives us a new nature empowered by the Holy Spirit who comes to live within each Christian.
From 1 Peter 1:3-5: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”

Whenever I find myself in the cellar of affliction, I always look about for the wine.
From Luke 22:19-20: “Then He took a loaf of bread, and when He had given thanks He broke it and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.’ And He did the same with the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.'”
Samuel Rutherford (1600-1661) was a Scottish pastor and Christian theologian.
From Isaiah 55:9: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Hearing of His timeless grace
Who creates all living things
Following Father’s vision
Carried upon eagle’s wings
Thirsting for grace-filled water
Forgiveness delivers light
Returning to Father’s flock
Redemption’s bridge now in sight
Breaking every sin-filled chain
Truth offers love for new day
Seeing path to Father’s grace
Evil darkness sent away
