Thomas Watson Quote

Every blow of the hammer is to fasten the nails of the building; so the preacher’s words are to fasten you the more to Christ; they weaken themselves to strengthen and settle you.

From Colossians 1:23:  “Provided that you continue securely established and steadfast in the faith, without shifting from the hope promised by the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven. I, Paul, became a minister of this gospel.”

Thomas Watson (1620-1686) was an English Puritan preacher and Christian author.

I am not a party candidate, and if elected cannot be President of a party, but the President of the whole people.

For more than half a century, during which kingdoms and empires have fallen, this Union has stood unshaken.  The patriots who formed it have long since descended to the grave; yet still it remains, the proudest monument to their memory.

Zachary Taylor (1784-1850) was elected to the office of President of the United States.  America’s 12th President only served 16 months when illness took his life.

There’s no sight like seeing the light from Calvary kiss a human face as it fills the heart with the assurance of Divine forgiveness.

From Hebrews 6:10-12:  “For God is not unjust; He will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for His sake in serving the saints, as you still do.  And we want each one of you to show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope to the very end, so that you may not become sluggish but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”

Rodney “Gipsy” Smith (1860-1947) was a British evangelist who conducted campaigns in both his native land and the United States for over 70 years.

Refresh your commitment today to test everything by the Word of God.  The surest defense against spiritual deception is knowledge of spiritual truth.

From 1 Peter 5:8-9:  “Discipline yourselves; keep alert.  Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.”

Our greatest impact on this earth comes from loving and serving others–as Jesus did.

From Galatians 5:13-14:  “For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters, only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become enslaved to one another.  For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'”

Cowgirl is an attitude really.  A pioneer spirit, a special brand of courage.  The cowgirl faces life head-on, lives by her own lights, and makes no excuses.

It’s the way you ride the trail that counts.

Dale Evans (1912-2001) was an American actress, singer, and songwriter.  She also just happened to be married to one of the most famous of Hollywood cowboys, Roy Rogers.

Oswald Chambers Quote

This is the unshakable secret of the Lord to those who trust Him–I will give thee thy life.  What more does a man want than his life?

From Jeremiah 45:5:  “And you, do you seek great things for yourself?  Do not seek them, for I am going to bring disaster upon all flesh, says the Lord, but I will give you your life as a prize of war in every place to which you may go.”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.
