Monday Memories: Fairy Tale Dream

This poem has been updated from its original post from February, 2019.  Take note of a technique used in the style which links each pair of verses together.

Jack hurriedly climbs the lofty beanstalk

Hoping to take Cinderella out for a walk

Cinderella looks out her window, slightly bitter

Left with Little Boy Blue, her tiny, glass slipper

Little Boy Blue feels like enjoying an afternoon nap

Hearing Snow White calling awakens him in a snap

Snow White hopes the Seven Dwarfs hurry back

Fearing the Big Bad Wolf will hide her in his sack

The Big Bad Wolf plans to enjoy a scrumptious feast

Hiding from Little Jack Horner who lives in the East

Little Jack Horner feels too full to devour a pie

Leaving the sweets for Jill who says, “Oh my!”

Jill loses her footing, tumbling down and down

Causing Jack to wake up, with a sleepy frown

Little Jack’s wonderful dream felt pleasing and fine

Reminding him that more stories wait for next time

Receiving Peace

From John 14:25-27:  “I have said these things to you while I am still with you.  But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.  Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.”

Receiving peace, covering far and near

Generating from God’s genuine love

Peace be within us, God blesses our souls

Through His Word, accepting grace from above

Tranquility resting, among God’s flock

Lord forever standing, with heaven’s peace

Surpassing all of our understanding

Jesus lives, delivering life’s new lease

Rely on Christ, seeking His inner peace

Through our Savior, nurturing hearts and minds

In faithfulness, accepting Him as Lord

Teach us to follow, salvation we find

Living Holy Spirit, guided by God

Transforming love, joy, peace—granted from God

Writing a Classic

Pardon a bit of sarcasm and humor in this poem.  Sometimes, the early morning air produces something to laugh at and have fun with.  In all seriousness, I enjoy writing very much, and I appreciate you for stopping in.  And remember, it is okay to smile and laugh as you read this poem.

Sitting at my writing desk this morn

Feeling quiet peace, verses reborn

Actually sitting in the kitchen

Its table welcomes a mind, come in

At least the coffee is always close

Never allowing a mind to doze

Sometimes, words flow as a writer crafts

Other times, words can’t even complete a draft

Robert Frost’s classics, all awaken

Images of “A Road Never Taken”

Wondering now, what words will gather

Searching for a poem, words come faster

Hemingway understates how he writes

“There is nothing to writing” . . . just write

Just writing . . . crafting thoughts into words

Words gather now, like wild zebra herds

These best efforts resemble “pig slop”

Destined for the pig sty, one more flop

Sarcasm aside, writing with pride

Readers, appreciating the ride

Few writers ever craft a classic

As for me, never changing tactics

Well, tomorrow will bring much better

Infinite God

From 1 Peter 5:6-7:  “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time.  Cast all our anxiety oh Him, because He cares for you.”

God, our Creator

In Heaven above

Standing powerful

Sends infinite love

Father in Heaven

Promises fulfill

Support and courage

His infinite skill

Read God’s Holy Word

Be bold, life begins

His love filled with care

Grace overcomes sin

Walking with our Lord

His strong hands extend

Trust always in Him

Whatever contends

Miraculous brings

Infinite outcomes

Filled with sacred love

Like a beating drum

Our finite minds weep

Lack of faith descends

Our infinite God

Holds, never to bend

Our Lord’s specialty

Impossible makes

Genuine and true

His love, no mistake

Rely on God’s ways

Hopeless turns to hope

Prayer lifts worry

Walking life’s tightrope

God’s eternal love

Endures forever

He holds on to us

With faith, whenever

Monday Memories: Walking the Trail

chestnut-ridge-2017-june-30-002.jpg

Walking along an unknown, isolated trail

Hoping that this journey goes without fail

Watching skyward for some warm fun

Hiding behind clouds, escapes the sun

Hurrying along the narrow path against the windy cold

Seeking to not find too much adventure—yet be bold!

Traveling quickly, the brisk pace advances along

Thinking this morning hike, nothing can go wrong

Turning a corner, approaching a different place

Seeing a fork coming up and slowing the pace

Searching the mysterious routes of twin solitary trails

Feeling confidence slipping, suspense tips the scales

Deciding to journey down the unfamiliar path on the right

Adjusting the trip’s rhythm, accepting challenges in sight

Moving along another route, sometimes part of life

Aligning conflicting thoughts, without further strife

Finishing this satisfying walk, never feeling ready to fail

Realizing life’s unique treks, resemble being on this trail

Waiting For Rain

long exposure photography of water drop

Photo by Fabiano Rodrigues on Pexels.com

What is so special about simple rain?

Have you truly witnessed God’s gift of rain?

Everywhere, anticipation of rain

Withering crops crave God’s rainfall today

Farmers wait faithfully for rains to come

Without rain, hearts and plants start to decay

The farmland depends on these vital rains

Last year, little rain arrives to help out

Sunny skies chase away clouds too often

“Next year” cries out from thirsty lands of drought

Farmers sow their spring crops on faith alone

Waiting for nature to moisten the ground

Praying to the Lord, asking for His rain

Rain arrives, new life rising skyward bound

God sends righteousness, in the form of rain

Fulfilling prayers, easing farmers’ pain

From Isaiah 45:8:  “Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the skies rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation may spring up, and let it cause righteousness to sprout up also; I the Lord have created it.”

God’s Team

pexels-photo-3184431.jpeg

Jesus gathers up His apostles from humble ground

Making up God’s team, their witness shall abound

God’s Word oversees the performance of this team

Standing as chief executive, seeing holiest theme

The Holy Spirit earmarks the hearts and brains

Serving as the binding glue, better than chains

Returning to the beginning of God’s creative time

Transforming a land, His Word continues to climb

The Creator conceives of a perfect place for man

Placing Adam and Eve in Eden, always His plan

But, Adam and Eve journey on a sin-filled path

Leaving the ample garden, under God’s wrath

From this moment, God’s team stumbles and wanders

Facing estrangement from God, His people squander

Jesus comes to bridge what separates us from God

Sitting at the right hand, coaching a humbled squad

God establishes His expectations, perfectly high

Faltering and imperfect mortals, will never satisfy

The team continues to collapse over and over again

Forgetting God’s Commandments, sin seems to win

Many teams measure success by the flashy show

Works by themselves, will never add much glow

But, Jesus shepherds His team on a brand new track

Following by faith alone, Jesus always has their back

He reminds us to always love our God in Heaven’s seat

Loving each other as you have loved Me, always repeat

A bloody, criminal’s Cross summons all to take a knee

Accepting Jesus as Savior, teammates look up to see

Our Father orchestrates, with infinite patience and love

Creating and molding, the Great I Am looks from above

Jesus remains alert at the Creator’s side

Carrying keys to eternal life, all bona fide

As team members, we must trust, follow, and abide

Playing for Jesus, His coaching is forever our guide
