Distant Land

Nation’s outstretched hand

Shaping distant land

Trade benefits both

Bringing steady growth

Prosperity’s health

Welcoming new wealth

Benevolence molds

Filling now with cold

This mighty power

Seeing its plans sour

Citizens lack voice

Having little choice

Uproar fuels action

Bringing reaction

Hostile clouds amass

Reaching dark impasse

Big brother nation

Facing frustration

Rebels gather ‘round

Fading common ground

More Redcoats arrive

Gathering beehive

Independence shouts

Calling freedom out

Colonists stand firm

Battling to affirm

Mother country’s heart

Tearing self apart

British might stands down

Watching its meltdown

America stands

Molding freedom’s hands

Throughout history, many nations have attempted to mold and shape other lands into their own image.  Terms such as imperialism, colonization, and nation building sometimes come to mind.  It is worth noting that the British attempted to establish a foothold on the American continent starting in 1607.  By the mid-1770s, their plans for a continuing American empire were crumbling.  Few, if any other nations, have learned from this lesson in history . . . America included.

Brokenhearted

From Psalm 34:11-12:  “Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LordWhich of you desires life, and covets many days to enjoy good?”

Souls crying out

Brokenhearted

Crushed in spirit

Turning to God

Seeking refuge

Comfort and hope

Righteous Father

Hearing our cries

Evil departs

Darkness transforms

Brightest light calls

Finding our Rock

Coming to God

He promises

Deliverance

Breathing goodwill

Lord calls us back

Humble and glad

Our troubles wane

Praising with joy

Faith surrounds hope

Love never fails

Unselfish grace

Redeeming us

From Psalm 34:1-3:  “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.  My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.  O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.”

Monday Memories: Take My Place

Photo by Mateusz Dach on Pexels.com

Have you ever thought?

About the significance of a chair

Providing comfort and relaxing care

Chairs, many in number

Starring in all sizes and shapes

Making for countless escapes

Summertime in the backyard

A sturdy, relaxing hammock waits

Making afternoon naps an ideal fate

Looking for a cool place to sit

Bean bag chairs, ready for fun

Comfortable seats for everyone

A rocking chair seldom sits alone

Inviting story time for two

Grandma reads, right on cue

Every living room offers choices

A colorful sofa seats two, maybe more

Crowding together, let’s not try for four

Extra chairs needed at an event

Arriving much, much too late

A folding chair will be my fate

Summer sun, surf, and sand

Sitting at the beach, carries the day

Relaxing under brilliant, sunny rays

Energetic, little people arrive

Parking themselves in tiny banana seats

Rocking with laughter, enjoying some treats

laughter, without any cares

An oversized recliner, in a corner

Always my best and most favorite place

Stretching out to relax, by the fireplace

Before you go, I have one request to ask

Will you please “take my place” in this special chair

The dentist is eager and ready, with genuine care

Life’s Firm Foundation

From Psalm 62:1-2:  “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation.  He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken.”

Photo by Rodolfo Quiru00f3s on Pexels.com

World’s foundations often shake

Failure crashes upon lives

Fragile planet in distress

How will we ever survive?

Earthly alliances break

Financial systems crater

Globe overwhelmed in turmoil

Where is our navigator?

Life’s storms never-ending

Future stands on wobbly ground

Weakest foundations crumbling

Who can help us to rebound?

Sharing His love, comes Jesus

Delivering freedom’s grace

Gathering in God’s fortress

Accepting Christ, let’s embrace

Rising from dark, empty tomb

Sitting at Father’s right hand

Saving us, Christ carries us

Life’s firm foundation shall stand

From Psalm 62:11-12:  “Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this:  that power belongs to God, and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.  For you repay to all according to their work.”

From Romans 8:26-27:  “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.  And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

Summer’s Pause

Summer’s heat taking pause

Rain touches with wet paws

Dry landscape’s soaking mist

Moisture been greatly missed

Gray overcast hides skies

Missing sun sadly sighs

Nature’s well-deserved break

Setting up summer’s cake

Crops, flowers, and grass smile

Delicious, stay awhile

Harmony finds its tune

Despite absent, full moon

Tranquility looks down

Nature’s elegant gown

Richest hues, brightest tones

Beauty’s shining gemstones

Precious stones on display

Add one more day to play

Summer’s heat shall resume

But first, smell rain’s fresh bloom
