Monday Memories: Lord of Glory

From Isaiah 6:3:  “And one called to another and said:  ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.'”

Darkness, evil abound

Our Champion arrives

Freeing chained hearts with praise

Faith growing in our lives

Graced by shed blood of Christ

Facing every hour

Wisdom, courage unite

Strongest bonds of power

Standing as God’s people

Walking as peacemakers

Sowing seeds from His faith

Harvest Glory’s acres

Christ’s journey lights His way

Centered on His people

Calling us, step forward

Blessed Cross, our steeple

Jesus’ pierced hands of change

Steady feet meet life’s quest

Lasting voice for justice

Renewing lives, each test

Glory fills God’s Kingdom

From His Heaven above

Nothing stops living grace

Salvation’s gift, free love

Wendell Berry Quote

The Christian gospel is a summons to peace, calling for justice beyond anger, mercy beyond justice, forgiveness beyond mercy, love beyond forgiveness.

From Colossians 1:13-14:  “He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

Wendell Berry (born 1934) is an American novelist and poet.  Much of his writing embraces the goodness of protecting our environment and preserving agriculture’s way of life.

Redemption’s Lasting Prize

From Isaiah 9:2:  “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.”

Outlook’s scarred landscape

Uncertainty’s shadows

Pervading, cold darkness

Hope’s final ember glows

Peace overpowered

Gloom of night never leaves

Witnessing life’s heartbreaks

Another day must grieve

Despair comes ashore

Empty vessel of grace

Asking, where has light gone?

Hope discovers its place

Each burden gathered

Sunrise at last arrives

Breaking oppressor’s rod

Messiah’s love alive

Resurrection breathes

Savior’s mercy shall rise

Sharing heavenly view

Redemption’s lasting prize

From Isaiah 9:6:  “For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon His shoulders, and He is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

John Eldredge Quote

God’s grand strategy, birthed in His grace toward us in Christ, and nurtured through the obedience of disciplined faith, is to release us into the redeemed life of our heart.

From Proverbs 3:5-6:  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”

John Eldredge (born 1960) is an American author, counselor, and lecturer on Christianity.  More details are available on his website:  wildatheart.org.

Messiah’s Love

From Colossians 13:13-14:  “Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.  Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”

Trust Forever Fed

From the words of American pastor and Christian teacher, Charles Stanley:  “In the hands of God, adversity becomes the means through which His supernatural power is demonstrated.”

From 1 John 5:3-4:  “For the love of God is this, that we obey His commandments.  And His commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world.  And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith.”

Monday Memories: Night

From Colossians 1:13-14 “He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

From the Creator, comes the day’s light

Why then, is there perpetual night?

Sin-filled darkness, traverses borders

Nations breathing endless disorders

Not a single country shall be spared

Few if any, seem ready . . . prepared

Partisan turmoil ignites unrest

Another sleepless night, minus rest

Social illness parks at each corner

Past ills, leaving many a mourner

Violence, injustice never pause

Out of this gloom, marches a new cause

Shroud of night’s blackness, tearing apart

Light conquers night, crashing our Lord’s heart

Blood-stained Cross, now-empty tomb proclaim

Son of Man, Son of God lights new flame

From Revelation 22:5:  “And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.”

From heavens above

Love scales newfound heights

Justice shall prevail

Breath of gentleness

Every blessed saint

Actions of patience

God’s Word guides with peace

Filled with righteousness

Salvation’s new lease

Darkness crawls away

Grace raises each heart

Messiah’s dawn reigns

Hope’s defining start

Good Shepherd

From Jeremiah 31:2-3:  “Thus says the LordThe people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, the Lord appeared to him from far away.  I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”

Brought out of wilderness

Darkness no longer speaks

Good Shepherd offers rest

Strengthened, no longer weak

Joyful journey of peace

Mountains singing with praise

Harvest reaping God’s ways

Gladness fills every heart

Enemy gives up chase

Darkness replaced with hope

From John 10:14-16:  “I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me, just as the Father knows me, and I know the Father.  And I lay down my life for the sheep.  I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.”
