Monday’s Memories: A Mother’s Light

[From January, 2020]  This poem is written to honor one of my daughters in Montana.  She celebrates a birthday this week with her husband and three children.  May God continue to fill her home with His blessings.

A mother’s heart fills the world with light

Born on a winter day, her life takes flight

 

Her loving and caring mother nurtures each day

Providing a Godly witness, with richness to say

 

God fills this young girl’s life with amazing gifts

Watching her exciting life mature, never adrift

 

God prepares a woman to be an attentive mother

Gathering life’s essentials, she is like none other

 

Christ walks at her side, creating genuine smiles

Feeling His presence, her life goes the extra mile

 

A young man catches her discerning eye with love

Unifying this couple, under blue skies from above

 

Their lives moving forward, with a balanced pace

Witnessing marriage and family, God as its base

 

This mother through it all, feels God waiting nearby

Striding ahead, her Lord’s Word glorifying the “why”

 

With each generation, a mother shares her light

Inspiring her children, to grow under God’s sight

Broken and waiting

Stumble, now falling

Mankind blind and lost

Grace always calling

 

Spirit picks us up

Reach for Father’s hand

Love fills empty cup

Vision clears as planned

 

Ask God our questions

Read Bible’s story

Taste Scripture’s account

Witness His glory

 

Lift eyes up high

Breathe in heaven’s love

God’s promises fly

Goodness from above

 

Wait for our Father

Hold tight to faith’s hand

His hope comes on board

From 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 13:  “Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.  It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth.  It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.”

Struggling with life, feeling lost

Dark wilderness all around

Thirsting for someone to come

Waiting, hoping to be found

 

Love arrives from a white knight

Riding through the timberland

Accepting me as I am

Reaching out, touching my hand

 

Hearing my cries, God provides

This honorable knight stands

Sealing my heart with his love

Hour glass fills with precious sand

 

Life can feel like a desert

Leaving only loneliness

Faithful light comes to delight

Shining from God’s holiness

 

Two lives shall become just one

Uniting through a Holy Lord

Happiness now fills a home

Love singing a blissful chord

From Isaiah 9:6-7:  “For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon His shoulders; and He is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and His kingdom.  He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore.  The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”

Faithful God’s Holy love

Shining from Bethlehem

Blessed virgin gives birth

In world filled with mayhem

 

Hope springs forth from God’s love

Filling manger with grace

Messiah born this night

Stable now Holy place

 

Divine love preaches faith

Sharing Lord’s precious gift

Behold man’s salvation

Satan’s plans now adrift

 

Peace covers earth’s landscape

Sowing eternal love

Savior’s mission begins

Father views from above

 

Lasting joy now goes forth

Hearing angels singing

You are invited to join in prayer:  Lord God, your love and mercy promise hope, joy, and peace.  During this season of Advent, open our hearts in preparation to receive our Savior.  Amen.

Written in 1865 by English hymn writer, William Chatterton Dix, the hymn of “What Child Is This?” is sung by Charlotte Church.  The lyrics are based upon the verses from Isaiah 9:6-7, and the tune is “Greensleeves.”

Perfect and Holy

The greatest honor we can give Almighty God is to live gladly because of the knowledge of His love.
