Lori Gottlieb Quotes

Photo by Matheus Bertelli on Pexels.com

Don’t judge your feelings; notice them.  Use them as your map.  Don’t be afraid of the truth.

Peace.  It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work.  It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

Lori Gottlieb (born 1966) is an American bestselling author, therapist, and speaker.

Monday Memories: Running in Life’s Marathon

This poem was previously published in March, 2019.  During this time, more of my writing was inspired by Christian themes.

Some equate dealing with this life to running a race

Of course, sometimes we pause and turnabout face

Wise people say, “Persistent and steady wins the race”

Better than hurrying to eat dinner without saying grace

Others encourage with, “Hurry up and build it now”

Oh my!  Can’t one stop to relax and take a bow?

Another calls out, “Experience it today works best”

What about using tomorrow—no worries one jests!

All of the above wisdom may be honest and true

But God will wait patiently until we are all through

We are all imperfections in God’s all-seeing eyes

Life will bring new challenges as each year flies

There is always another hill to climb so we can see

The greener grass sometimes turns brown for thee

Life throws “stuff” along our way, not always good

Sometimes we lack courage to go when we should

It is time to finish the big race and succeed

Anything less sells us short of our final deed

All should count their blessings—so many

God fills us up with much joy for all and any

Life’s journey seems like a marathon run

Take it one day at a time, enjoy the fun!

Charles Swindoll Quote

God has a plan for us, mysterious though it may seem, and we want to be in the center of it.  All the risks notwithstanding, the center of God’s will is still the safest place on earth to be.

From Psalm 130:6:  “My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning.”

Dietrich Bonhoeffer Quote

The commandment of absolute truthfulness is really only another name for the fullness of discipleship.

From Proverbs 10:9:  “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever follows perverse ways will be found out.”

Steadfast Prayers

Photo by Tima Miroshnichenko on Pexels.com

Drought hardens fertile land

Faithfully sowing seeds

Reaching out to God’s hand

Praying for farmers’ needs

Weather forecasts no rain

Boldness in faith remains

Praying for crops of grain

Holding tight to God’s reins

Clouds covering high plains

Showers dancing away

Leaving tears, without rain

Filling hours with prayer

Faith shall never waver

Perseverance, God’s domain

Seeking His good favor

Waiting out this campaign

Steadfast prayers prevail

Bountiful, earthly grace

Sharing rain without fail

Bringing smiles to each face

Curious Trivial Facts (5/21)

This informative post will be posted on Saturday along with my usual writing.  We can all appreciate some of the lesser known facts from around the world.

The bottle in which Jeannie lived on “I Dream of Jeannie” was fashioned from a 1964 Christmas-edition Jim Beam decanter.

Costumed characters commonly found at amusement parks are known in the industry as “fuzzies.”  On the average, a fuzzie’s outfit weighs forty pounds, and during the hot summer months, under the blazing sun and surrounded by crowds, interior temperatures can heat up to 150 degrees.

These facts have been discovered in I NEVER KNEW THAT by David Hoffman (2009).

Oswald Chambers Quote

If you have heard Jesus Christ’s voice on the billows, let your convictions go to the winds, let your consistency go to the winds, but maintain your relationship to Him.

From John 21:7:  “That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord!’  When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he had taken it off, and jumped into the sea.”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

Morning’s Bliss

Photo by Tobias Bju00f8rkli on Pexels.com

Waking up early

Thick darkness greets thee

Quiet time invites

Tranquility’s seas

Hearing rain’s cascade

Rhythm bringing ease

Daylight holding back

Morning’s bliss shall please

Steaming toward light

Music in background

Thoughts wander, carefree

Life’s train now homebound

Arriving on time

Memories retrieved

Harvest of warm hearts

Life’s journey achieved
