Listen in Silence

From Isaiah 41:1:  “Listen to Me in silence, O coastlands; let the peoples renew their strength; let them approach, then let them speak; let us together draw near for judgment.”

Daily life racing ahead

Bearing with its constant noise

Searching for journey’s beachhead

Father’s mercy transmits poise

Listen in silence, God speaks

Hearing His comforting voice

Quieting peace, each heart seeks

Father calms, let man rejoice

Heaven breathes, stillness exhales

Shining His light, never fear

Leaving dark, wilderness trails

Father leading, always near

Schedule time, only for God

Drawing near, learning His way

Transforming sinful facade

Father’s blessed Word, let’s pray

American writer Madeleine L’Engle captures the essence of meaning found in this poem with these words:  “Deepest communion with God is beyond words, on the other side of silence.”

Trusting God is not by what you read or know.  It is by doing what you have learned from His Word, Bible.

From James 1:22-25:  “But be doers of the word and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.  For if any are hearers of the word and not doers, they are like those who look at themselves in a mirror; for they look at themselves and, on going away, immediately forget what they were like.  But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing.”

Woodrow Kroll (born 1944) is an American pastor, Christian author, and radio host.  He has written over 50 books on the Bible and Christian living.

Monday Memories: Morning Praise

From Proverbs 3:26:  “For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”

This early morning time

Brings moments of praise

Spirits gather to climb

Warmed by the sun’s rays

God’s Word speaks out

With wisdom and clout

Another day appears ready

Feet will not stumble

God’s Word marches steady

Never afraid to tumble

God’s Word speaks out

With wisdom and clout

For the humble receive

God’s favor and love

Avoid those who deceive

Look to Heaven above

God’s Word speaks out

With wisdom and clout

Arise, prepared for the Lord

He’s endlessly in control

Arming all with His sword

Leading us out on patrol

God’s Word speaks out

With wisdom and clout

This morn sings a song

Filling with God’s praises

One cannot be wrong

With Salvation, He raises

God’s Word speaks out

With wisdom and clout

Nourish us right now

God’s manna is ready

Take a knee and bow

He keeps us steady

God’s Word speaks out

With wisdom and clout

Our day comes alive

From God’s trusting light

Allowing us to thrive

‘Til day becomes night

God’s Word arrives at dawn

Always full, never gone

Saint Augustine Quote

I love you, Lord, not doubtingly, but with absolute certainty.  Your Word beat upon my heart until I fell in love with you, and now the universe and everything in it tells me to love you.

From Ephesians 1:3-4:  “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, just as He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him in love.”

Warren Wiersbe Quote

Bible history is filled with people who began the race with great success but failed at the end because they disregarded God’s rules.

From Proverbs 13:13:  “Those who despise a word bring destruction on themselves, but those who respect a command will be rewarded.”

Back on Course

From Luke 15:31-32:  “Then the father said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.  But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life; he was lost and has been found.'”

Kneeling now to pray

Forsaking darkness

Finding blessed light

Immersed in God’s Word

Hearing truth so bright

Growing in God’s grace

Worshipping with Him

Each precious moment

Walking in rhythm

From 2 Peter 3:17-18:  “You therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.  But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.  Amen.”

Matthew Henry Quote

The more reverence we have for the Word of God, the more joy we shall find in it.

From Isaiah 40:8:  “The grass withers; the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

Monday Memories: Pure in Heart

From Lamentations 3:25-26:  “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul that seeks Him.  It is good that one should wait quietly for the Salvation of the Lord.”

We are an impatient lot

We know what we want

We want it right now

God’s Word brings us wisdom

Try following a different path

Remain patient at all times

Allow God to be in charge

His faithful plans will unfold

Offer our prayers to God

Give thanks for our blessings

Remain ever hopeful each day

Wait faithfully with quiet reverence

For the Lord delivers Salvation

God allows us free will

How will we use it?

From Philippians 4:8:  “Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Infuse quality into our lives

In our attitudes and thoughts

Guard our actions and words

Influence our daily course

Adjust our tone of thoughts

Jesus taught us to believe

“Blessed are the pure in heart

For they will see God”

From the words of evangelical pastor Henry Blackaby:  “God is concerned about your life in Eternity.  Allow Him to take all the time He needs to shape you for His purposes.”
