Resurrection Hope

Our Lord’s Resurrection

Brings forth Salvation

His Father guides Abraham to faithfully pray

Allowing acts of devotion with richness to say

King David speaks of the coming Messiah

Just as images emanate forth from Isaiah

Skeptics scoff, declare Resurrection is untrue

Christ proclaims He has indeed risen—so true!

The Father’s fulfills His grace-filled plan

Reaching out to us with His paternal hand

God generates hope for a darkness-filled land

All witness the piercings on His son’s hands

Christ’s blood is spilled for your sins and mine

Bringing the Cross front and center for all time

God carries forth His amazing grace

Making Resurrection a genuine place

Christ comes alive to witness and call

I am the Resurrection and life for all

Jesus brings Salvation to the righteous

Offering hope to even the unrighteous

Being saved by red blood shed for thee

Humbling ourselves and taking a knee

Many believers arrive to proudly proclaim

Christ’s Resurrection is more than a game

Each and every day all should always say

Christ offers His shed blood to fully pay

Heavenly Message

When I stumble

My body tumbles

Weakness fills me

Not worthy to see

Attempting to move

Just not in my groove

People walk right by

None saying even “hi”

Ignoring me there

Silence never fair

Feeling so much alone

Picking up my phone

Finding short text to read

Responding to my needs

Standing up now

Kneeling to bow

The message sustains

No, I’m not to blame

“My brother, rise up thee

Now, always follow me”

Jesus!

Walking to Daylight

At morning, walking in total darkness

Filling a world with a silent quietness

A full moon illuminates the crystal clear sky

Brightening a walker’s thoughts, time flies

The frigid, morning air washes across a face

Sending a wintry breath filled with cold taste

A layer of garments safeguards from the chill

Walking for an hour awakens a sluggish will

An early, morning walk isn’t for the weak of heart

Feeling somewhat better now after a dismal start

A series of shadows dance around a home

Making a soul feel remote and quite alone

All eyes must stay alert on the sidewalk

Signaling when an uneven surface stalks

The mood is set for a moving conversation

Hearing God’s Biblical word brings sensation

A mindful heart beckons to come through

Creating an intimacy with a Lord so true

The walk’s pace continues to march right along

Allowing this rendezvous with time that’s long

The eastern sky begins to brighten with light

Bringing an end soon to this walk of delight

Another early morning walk will come again

Walking to daylight with Christ as my friend

Do you look forward to early morning walks?  If so, what do you like most about such an activity?

Marching With Our Lord

From the quiet darkness, the Enemy lurks and waits

Waiting with his empty promises, fills him with hate

Our Lord God brings much strength and power

Preparing us for battle with a Spirit that towers

An exalted, mighty fortress our God builds for us all

Defending us behind stout walls that will never fall

God prepares us to be warriors standing tall

Defeating forces of spiritual evil is God’s call

Nothing shall ever overcome God’s master plan

Remaining faithful to His word, we humbly stand

Now dressed mightily for battle with God’s sacred tools

Wearing God’s armor, we will always march to His rule

Fasten on the belt of truth that God dictates we wear

Wear the breastplate of righteousness that we bear

Carry the shield of faith always in God’s name

Strap on the helmet of salvation that we claim

The crafty Enemy desires to rule over God’s creation

Arming ourselves with the Spirit’s sword brings elation

God will triumph through us at our call

Causing the Enemy to tremble afterall

God’s chosen ally will always march at our side

Sending Christ to keep the road open and wide

The Enemy’s darkness will be penetrated by God’s light

Retreating from our Savior, who prevails with His might

God’s awesome kingdom will proudly reign for all eternity

Prevailing in His Spirit and abiding in Truth brings victory

The text references for this poem come from two sources (each is linked):  Ephesians 6:10-17 written by Apostle Paul, and the hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” written by Martin Luther.

We Have a Friend

Yes, we have no better friend than you

What we have is special and very true

We possess a dear friend in Jesus, our Savior

He comes down to us, bringing abundant favor

Our Lord descends to earth with His human face

His Son comes to bring salvation from rich grace

Yes, we have no better friend than Christ, the King

He washes white our sinful nature that now stings

God’s son walks ahead of us to the solitary Cross

His journey brings generous hope for all of the lost

He heals the sick and His words speak truth

His family tree goes through David and Ruth

Yes, we have no better friend than Jesus

His wise words reach out to each of us

Today we bow down and take a knee

Our Father offers His grace for free

We all take up our own Cross and follow Christ

His salvation comes from God, filled with might

Yes, we have no better friend than our Lord

His rich blessings will bring all of us on board

As Christians, we most certainly have no better friend than Jesus, our Savior.  What inspires you to walk each day with our Lord?

Midnight Walk

Stirring from my deep sleep at midnight

Seeing someone moving in the dim light

Hearing a gentle voice whispering my name

Calling out, “Missing you has been a shame”

Recognizing that her gentle voice is familiar, not new

Appearing now, my beloved Grandma comes into view

Walking towards me, she carries no fear

Listening to a voice so true and very dear

Saying again that I’ve been deeply missed

Bowing down, my forehead receives a kiss

Remembering previous days with her brings a smile

Telling me kindly, let’s walk together now for awhile

Asking her a question, “Is it now my time?”

Replying back, “No, but you must climb”

Facing a wall that records each of my sins

Condemning me, comes Darkness again

Reaching down comes a firm, strong hand

Grabbing hold, my feet flee sinking sand

Gazing upward, my Grandma has departed and left

Taking her place arrives Christ, raised from death

Running in Life’s Marathon

Some equate dealing with this life to running a race

Of course, sometimes we pause and turnabout face

Wise people say, “Persistent and steady wins the race”

Better than hurrying to eat dinner without saying grace

Others encourage with, “Hurry up and build it now”

Oh my!  Can’t one stop to relax and take a bow?

Another calls out, “Experience it today works best”

What about using tomorrow—no worries one jests!

All of the above wisdom may be honest and true

But God will wait patiently until we are all through

We are all imperfections in God’s all-seeing eyes

Life will bring new challenges as each year flies

There is always another hill to climb so we can see

The greener grass sometimes turns brown for thee

Life throws “stuff” along our way, not always good

Sometimes we lack courage to go when we should

It is time to finish the big race and succeed

Anything less sells us short of our final deed

All should count their blessings—so many

God fills us up with much joy for all and any

Life’s journey seems like a marathon run

Take it one day at a time, enjoy the fun!

God’s Mighty Fortress

I awaken with a heavy heart today

Sleeping later than usual if I may

My thoughts are with those in dire need

Hoping their lives will blossom to please

When a person cares about others nearby

Feeling their sadness and sorrow going by

It causes me to really stop and think

Dashing my energy whenever I blink

I feel like running to those who suffer so

Forgetting the many miles that I must go

I reach for my Bible at this morning hour

Reading God’s word that forever towers

His amazing grace and love always fill me up

Plugging the vacuum of a sinner who’s corrupt

My Bible journey transports me to Psalm 31

Allowing the words to reach out, one by one

I pursue refuge with my almighty God, my Lord

Delivering to me His righteousness, like a sword

God has created a holy, mighty fortress for all

Carrying all of us to a safe place before we fall

Lord, remove me from this netting that holds thee

Allowing my troubles to fall as I drop to my knees

I extend my troubled hand out to His

Guiding me to bless Him and all that is

My Lord has redeemed me to stand firm

Sending me forth to help others in return

Waking up on a morning when my own heart was indeed very heavy, God transformed my attitude in His way.  Before writing this poem, I was reading a short devotional, and the Biblical text sent me to  Psalm 31:1-5.  Use the link to read these inspiring verses.

Forgiving Wind

God has used the wind for His purposes since the very beginning of time.  From Genesis 1:2-3:  “the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.  Then God said, ‘Let there be be light.'”

The wind chimes sing this morning with so much to say

Playing inspiring music that turns calmness aside today

The music brings warm comfort to one’s heart

Reminding at dawn of past memories to restart

These rich images from the past arrive so clear

Blessing one’s spirit with nothing ever to fear

With a renewing spirit bursting from God’s mighty fame

Sending forth meaningful counsel in His glorious name

The day’s agenda stands ready to roll out once again

Traveling faithfully forward with no desire to ever sin

Yet, this blessed life may again stumble today

Asking for God’s forgiveness with little to say

The old rugged Cross comes forward into one’s sight

Witnessing Christ’s red blood brings courage to fight

Just as the wind chimes tell again of God’s loving soul

Walking with Christ refurbishes a life that is now full
