Elisabeth Elliot Quote

If my life is surrendered to God, all is well.  Let me not grab it back, as though it were in peril in His hand but would be safer in mine!

From Psalm 34:19:  “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord rescues them from them all.

Elisabeth Elliot (1926-2015) was a Christian author and speaker.  She and her husband, Jim, spent time as missionaries in Ecuador.

Going Forward

Usually on most days

Life’s journey moves along

Solving another maze

Each answer never wrong

Hourly reality check

Simple truths always guide

Avoiding any wrecks

Every step filled with pride

Tomorrow will bring change

Certain as each sunrise

Stirring thoughts to exchange

Nothing waits in disguise

Goodness set to deploy

Positive always leads

Going forward brings joy

Lasting happiness freed

The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.

Dream more, learn more, care more, and be more.

Dolly Parton (born 1946) is an acclaimed American singer-songwriter.  Her success in country music has enriched her life with opportunities to become a philanthropist, actress, and businesswoman.

Light Now Free!

From Luke 24:6-7: “Remember how He told you, while He was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to the hands of sinners and be crucified and on the third day rise again.”

Enemy’s motives

Darkness full of fraud

Life spiraling down

Behind his facade

Trapped, with no escape

Caught in evil’s net

Each wave crashing down

Sinking deeper yet

Flowing river’s faith

Never left alone

Christ walks on water

Freed from this millstone

Hearing trumpet sound

Redemption’s surge swells

Blessed assurance

Now soul shall be well

Blood pays any cost

Sins nailed to this tree

Witness empty tomb

Rising, Light now free!

The hymn “When Peace, Like a River” inspired the writing of this poem.  The lyrics were written by Horatio Gates Spafford in 1873.  The song is sometimes titled from a line in the popular refrain, “It Is Well With My Soul.”

Our hope reaps the harvest of our faith.  Our faith is nourished from redemption found on a blood-stained cross.  Our salvation is sown with God’s love.

Mark it down, things do not “just happen.”  Ours is not a random, whistle-in-the-dark universe.  The God who loves us and redeemed us . . . is there, and He is not silent.

From Romans 11:33-36:  “O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and how inscrutable His ways!  ‘For who has known the mind of the Lord?  Or who has been His counselor?  Or who has given a gift to Him, to receive a gift in return?’  For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever.  Amen.”

Wilferd Peterson Quotes

The secret of greatness is simple:  do better work than any other man in your field–and keep on doing it.

Happiness doesn’t come from doing what we like to do but from liking what we have to do.

Wilferd Peterson (1900-1995) was a prolific American author.  While he published nine books, his inspirational essays filled the pages of a national Sunday newspaper supplement, THIS WEEK.
