True liberty is not the power to live as we please, but to live as we ought.

From 2 Peter 3:10-13:  “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be destroyed with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.  Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and destroyed and the elements will melt with fire?  But, in accordance with His promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Arthur Walkington (A. W.) Pink (1886-1952) was an English Bible teacher and Christian writer.  Following his death, many of his writings were well-received by readers.  This turnabout established him as an influential evangelical author.

I want to write books that unlock the traffic jam in everybody’s head.

Writers may be disreputable, incorrigible, early to decay or late to bloom, but they dare to go it alone.

John Updike (1932-2009) was an American novelist, poet, and short story writer.  In his generation, he was considered by many to be one of America’s most gifted writers of fiction.

Knowledge can be learned, but wisdom must be earned.  Wisdom is knowledge . . . lived.

From Proverbs 8:1-2:  “Does not wisdom call and understanding raise her voice?  On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand.”

Sheila Walsh (born 1956) is a Scottish-born, American contemporary Christian vocalist.  Her journey has also taken her into writing, speaking, and evangelizing.

Nothing is impossible with God.  Will you ask the Lord to handle that specific impossibility, and then leave it with Him in a faith that simply will not doubt?

From Jeremiah 32:17:  “Ah Lord God!  It is You who made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm!  Nothing is too hard for You.”

The only one qualified to throw a stone . . . didn’t.

From John 8:4-7:  “They said to Him, ‘Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery.  Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such women.  Now what do You say?’  They said this to test Him, so that they might have some charge to bring against Him.  Jesus bent down and wrote with His finger on the ground.  When they kept on questioning Him, He straightened up and said to them, ‘Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.'”

Guard, protect, and cherish your land, for there is no afterlife for a place that started out as Heaven.

The West is dead . . . you may lose a sweetheart but you won’t forget her.  (Excerpt from his book, Trails Plowed Under:  Stories of the Old West.)

God’s desire is that we grow in faith as we walk with Him.  Faith is not merely a one-time event through which we were saved; rather, it’s a continuous way of life from the point of salvation forward.

From 2 Thessalonians 1:3-4:  “We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing.  Therefore we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith during all your persecutions and the afflictions that you are enduring.”

Because the Christian has the Lord Himself dwelling within, the potential for inner strength is unlimited.  Only the indwelling, empowering Christ can give someone that much confidence.

From Psalm 107:9:  “For He satisfies the thirsty, and the hungry He fills with good things.”
