Guarding Our Integrity

From Mark 8:34-35:  “He called the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, ‘If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.  For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.'”

Speaking the truth, God places high value

Encouraging righteous and honest ways

Teaching us to guard our integrity

Honoring our Father, each word He says

Accepting our Lord’s lasting gift of Grace

Seeing the Messiah, a blood-stained Cross

Taking a knee, He breathes new life in us

Cleansing souls, we are taken across

Denying ourselves with unselfishness

Taking up our own cross, following Him

Committing ourselves to Jesus, the Christ

Standing against temptation, life not dim

Acknowledging our mistaken moments

Confessing unrighteousness to the Lord

Repenting for unholy thoughts, words, and deeds

Turning away, sin no longer ignored

Believing the truth of our Father’s Word

Abiding with our Lord’s Holy commands

Walking between the lines, never blurry

Following Christ’s faithful steps, in the sands

Filling our lives with righteous character

Dwelling with the Father, avoiding strife

Knowing life will bring daily challenges

Guarding our integrity, in new life

From Psalm 15:1-4:  “Lord, who may abide in your tent?  Who may dwell on your holy hill?  Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right, and speak the truth from their heart; who do not slander with their tongue, and do no evil to their friends, nor take up a reproach against their neighbors; in whose eyes the wicked are despised, but who honor those who fear the Lord; who stand by their oath even to their hurt.”

60’s Flashback

The decade of the 1960’s brought many new gadgets, tools, and toys into stores across America and around the world.  Some of these products still exist today in their original form or with a modern update.  All images are courtesy of Pinterest.

Kodak Instamatic 104 Camera

The tradition of ground-breaking technology continued with Kodak’s newest camera in 1963.

Barbie Doll

The #1 doll of the decade arrived in 1959, and it made Mattel a fortune.  The doll reflected the mod-inspired fashion style of the 1960’s.

Uncle Milton’s Ant Farm

This popular “formicarium” or ant farm is still produced today, and it was one of the top sellers during the decade.

Sunbeam Mixmaster

This innovative kitchen device was the best-selling mixer of the decade.  I can still remember my Grandmother making her famous whipped potatoes with this mixer, and my Mother owned one as well.

Etch-a-Sketch

This popular toy was invented in 1960 by French toymaker Andre Cassagnes, and later it was sold in America through the Ohio Art Company.

West Bend Flavo-Matic

Long before drip coffee brewing machines, the good ol’ percolator brewed America’s coffee throughout the decade and beyond.

Chatty Cathy

This doll was the second most popular in North America (first sold in 1959).  When pulling Cathy’s string, she was capable of saying one of eleven phrases.

I hope you enjoyed a journey back in time.  I imagine some of you used one or more of these products.  Do you have any other gadgets or toys from the 60’s that you remember?

We need to learn this secret of the burning heart.  When God gives a vision, transact business on that line, no matter what it costs.

From Luke 24:30-32:  [On the road to Emmaus] “When He was at the table with them, He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.  Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight.  They said to each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He was talking to us on the road, while He was opening the scriptures to us?'”

Finding New Life

From 2 Corinthians 11:13-14:  “For such boasters are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.  And no wonder!  Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”

Facing life’s harshest trials

Walking uphill in shadows

Keeping on the proper trail

Coveting greener meadows

Suffering darkest ordeals

Praying for divine advice

Listening for God’s response

Willing to pay any price

Hiding off the path, waiting

Offering cunning, false hope

Sliding into Satan’s net

Reaching up for rescue’s rope

Clutching God’s forgiving hand

Leaving the enemy’s grip

Finding new life with the Lord

Walking in His fellowship

From Romans 6:22-23:  “But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification.  The end is eternal life.  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Love Triumphs

From 1 Corinthians 13:13:  “And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.”

Living hollow life without love

Nothing but emptiness, thereof

Disconnected faith fills our veins

Minus love, tall mountains remain

Mankind’s meaningless possessions

Forgotten in life’s recessions

Worldly knowledge, means so little

Love gently binds, never brittle

Love arrives with Holy kindness

Patience without any blindness

Never arrogant or hateful

Without envy, always grateful

Jesus teaches, love each other

Sincere love, sisters and brothers

Caring God so loved this dark world

Christ’s own unselfish love unfurled

From a blood-stained Cross comes His Grace

Love speaks out, sin falls on its face

Our Lord offers His Holy gift

Faith, hope, love . . . no longer adrift

God’s Word delivers life’s new lease

Love triumphs, building lasting peace

From the words of Christian theologian, Reinhold Niebuhr:  “The cross symbolizes a cosmic as well as a historic truth.  Love conquers the world, but its victory is not an easy one.”

We cannot kindle when we will

The fire which in the heart resides,

The spirit bloweth and is still,

In mystery our soul abides;

But tasks in hours or insight will’d

Can be through hours of gloom fulfill’d

From Luke 24:30-32:  [On the road to Emmaus] “When He was at the table with them, He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.  Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight.  They said to each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He was talking to us on the road, while He was opening the scriptures to us?'”
