Nothing Pursues Something

Hoping to find something

Peering down, never up

Searching darkened nothing

“Seinfeld” gathers awards

Endless shows with nothing

Jerry’s name on billboards

He’s caught on to something

Writing with empty words

Dreams filling with something

Missing all the keywords

Amounting to nothing

Words lost, dreading nothing

Writer facing trials

Mining life for something

Triggers newfound something

Memories begin search

Looking beyond nothing

Nothing pursues something

Something subdues nothing

The American sitcom “Seinfeld” entertained viewers for nine years with the creative humor of comedian Jerry Seinfeld.  With a setting in New York City, the cast featured regulars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, and Michael Richards.  The success of the show has often been referenced to a “show about nothing.”

Here is a short clip from the show, featuring Jerry Seinfeld with guest star Brad Garrett.  The scene is titled “You barely know your car.”

Will Smith Quotes

Whatever your dream is, every extra penny you have needs to be going to that.

There’s so much negative imagery of black fatherhood.  I’ve got tons of friends that are doing the right thing by their kids, and doing the right thing as a father–and how come that’s not newsworthy.

Cleansing Rain

Autumn rains lasting for days

Covering the land with mist

Cleansing under cloudy haze

Rising pollen, now dismissed

Harvest pausing, farmers wait

Parking soybeans, left to take

Drying cornstalks, know their fate

Standing ready, combines brake

Creeks filling, slowly at first

Running water, sent ahead

Suspending reservoirs’ thirst

Pausing for now, winter’s dread

Nature’s perfect cycle breathes

Singing praises to the Lord

Watching as autumn unsheathes

Waking when spring comes aboard

Behind the Scenes–Act 3

Welcome to “Behind the Scenes.”  Today, we have returned to visit with Richard, the creative voice behind the writing journey of Big Sky Buckeye.

Welcome back Richard.  It is a pleasure visit with you again.

You have been writing and blogging for two years.  What have you treasured most from this experience?

One of the gems I have enjoyed most is exchanging comments and thoughts with other bloggers and writers.  When I first arrived at WordPress, I didn’t expect to establish dialogues with so many wonderful people.

Here are a series of short questions.  We are sure your readers would enjoy learning a bit more about you.

Favorite Book

One of my favorite books is Blind Your Ponies by Stanley Gordon West.  The fictional story is set in a small town in southwestern Montana.  Having lived and taught in some smaller communities in Montana, I can identify with the setting and the surrounding area.

Favorite Music

I still enjoy much of the music from my youth (60s and 70s oldies).  Current music tends to be pop or country.

Favorite Architectural Marvel

Growing up in Billings, Montana, I was always in awe of the Moss Mansion, which was built in 1903 by businessman P. B. Moss.  His last remaining family member was still living in the house during my high school years.  The home is mentioned in a feature published earlier in:  Visit the Magic City.

Favorite Quote

From a high school commencement from many years ago, the keynote speaker left a treasure with the graduates:  “Promise less, deliver more.”

Grade School Memory

In the 6th Grade, my teacher (Mike Hink) required his students to write with a fountain pen.  He even refilled our empty pens with more ink when needed.

Favorite Spot to Hangout

With my enjoyment of coffee and books, I have always welcomed a visit to Barnes and Noble.

We have appreciated spending time with Richard from Big Sky Buckeye.  Look for more “Behind the Scenes” in future postings.

Here It Comes!

Barney, an American tourist, is visiting an Aboriginal cultural site in Australia.  For his enthusiastic audience, one of the guides plans to demonstrate how to throw a boomerang

He flings the L-shaped projectile outward, with the intention of it returning back to him.  Or so . . . he hopes everything works out as intended.

As the summer heat burns up the air’s remaining moisture, Barney pulls out his water bottle for a thirst-quenching gulp.  Unaware, he wanders right in front of the guide.

Sometimes, opposite forces must interact in a cataclysmic event.  Now is one of those moments when time stands still.

The guide offers a hurried instruction, “Here it comes mate!”

Back in Time

Walking along the ancient canal towpath fills my mind with thoughts of years ago . . .

Early morning walk, going back in time

Autumn’s breath creates thoughts, filling with rhyme

Trekking along canal’s ancient pathway

Thoughts caress past moments, plenty to say

Gentle breeze, sending leaves twirling on down

Mind arrives at different time and town

Dreaming . . .

More simple times, without high tech living

Days invite, delightful and forgiving

Riding bareback along this old canal

Looking for trees to climb with school-age pals

Fishing one final time, nearby pond waits

When icy winter comes, change to ice skates

Creepy, storm-filled nights, reading classic prose

Edgar Allen Poe’s words, scary shadows

Looking for literature’s lighter themes

Whitman, Hawthorne, Melville adding to dreams

Quiet evenings filled with family time

Gathered around for radio’s primetime

Crisp, fall afternoon, gridiron titans clash

College football rivals looking to smash

Romance blossoms, courtship takes center stage

Life filling with sweetness, each turning page

Back to reality . . .

Journey runs into closed gate at Rager Road

Turning around, grateful for time borrowed

Looking forward to walking here real soon

Fondest memories, let them sing a tune

A quiet place for fishing, conversation, and winter ice skating.
