Path of Life

From Psalm 16:1-2:  “Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.  I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.'”

Seeing foolishness

Walking darkest roads

Life’s journey of faith

Coming to crossroads

To whom shall we choose?

Evil’s empty book

Filled with deception

Flesh becomes his hook

Wilderness calls out

God’s refuge protects

Love filled with goodness

Earning our respect

Boundary lines set

Marching in God’s trust

Chosen path of life

Faith removes our lust

Always before us

God’s daily support

His right hand’s guidance

Grace never falls short

From Psalm 16:11:  “You show me the path of life.  In your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Fatherhood’s Journey

Photo by Hannah Nelson on Pexels.com

Growing up, young lad’s treasured dreams

Playing on big league baseball team

Fun-filled adventure marks most days

Journey’s actions conquer life’s maze

Thoughts of family seem remote

Happy to fish from Dad’s new boat

Learning life’s lessons on God’s watch

Scripture’s heroes always topnotch

Far too soon, years advance along

Melodies of love, life’s new song

Marriage joins young man with his bride

Sons and daughters, soon at their side

God’s fatherly lessons made clear

Maturity quiets each fear

Fatherhood blesses this Dad’s soul

Making him feel alive and whole

Collecting lifetime of keepsakes

Children love his homemade milkshakes

Years move quickly, home’s empty nest

Dad’s wisdom guides each child’s quest

Creating humbleness of heart

Fatherhood ignites life’s jumpstart

Frank Herbert Quotes

Photo by asim alnamat on Pexels.com

Seek freedom and become captive to your desires.  Seek discipline and find your liberty.

It is impossible to live in the past, difficult to live in the present, and a waste to live in the future.

American author Frank Herbert (1920-1986) was best known for his science fiction writing.  His novel DUNE (1965) and its sequels brought him wide acclaim.

Pursuing Christ

From Psalm 119:1-3:  “Happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LordHappy are those who keep His decrees, who seek Him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong but walk in His ways.”

Happiness comes to those

Pursuing Christ, our Lord

Walking in righteousness

His grace brings us on board

Heart’s treasured devotion

Pursuing Christ, our Lord

Following His teachings

Peace sings harmony’s chords

Soul’s consuming passion

Pursuing Christ, our Lord

Hearing His sacred Word

Faith breathes, fully restored

Future hope lights each day

Pursuing Christ, our Lord

Praying darkness shall fade

Trust grows, mercy’s accord

Empty tomb now proclaims

Pursuing Christ, our Lord

Opening heaven’s gate

Resurrection awards

From Psalm 119:159-160:  “Consider how I love Your precepts; be gracious to me according to Your steadfast love.  The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances endures forever.”

Just Singin’

Photo by Andre Furtado on Pexels.com

New day callin’ now

Raisin’ one eyebrow

Shiftin’ sticky clutch

Steps seem out of touch

Life makin’ no sense

Ain’t got fifty cents

Sittin’ on life’s bench

Rain comes, just to drench

Losin’ track of time

Life’s lemons and limes

Prices skyrocket

Jean’s empty pockets

Life’s newest gamble

Fallin’ to shambles

Lookin’ down dark road

Map’s secret, stealth code

Life’s hollow grand slam

Cold toast without jam

Missin’ mornin’ snooze

Just singin’ life’s blues

Dreamin’—yes I am

Life’s final exam

While crafting this poem, thoughts went back to hearing American singer and songwriter Roger Miller performing his classic, award-winning hit song, “King of the Road.”  Here is a taste of his unique talent.

Jane Austen Quotes

None of us want to be in calm waters all our lives.

Time will explain.

Jane Austen (1775-1817) was an acclaimed English novelist.  Much of her writings dealt with women’s pursuit of a more favorable social standing as well as economic security.

Monday Memories: Running in Life’s Marathon

This poem was previously published in March, 2019.  During this time, more of my writing was inspired by Christian themes.

Some equate dealing with this life to running a race

Of course, sometimes we pause and turnabout face

Wise people say, “Persistent and steady wins the race”

Better than hurrying to eat dinner without saying grace

Others encourage with, “Hurry up and build it now”

Oh my!  Can’t one stop to relax and take a bow?

Another calls out, “Experience it today works best”

What about using tomorrow—no worries one jests!

All of the above wisdom may be honest and true

But God will wait patiently until we are all through

We are all imperfections in God’s all-seeing eyes

Life will bring new challenges as each year flies

There is always another hill to climb so we can see

The greener grass sometimes turns brown for thee

Life throws “stuff” along our way, not always good

Sometimes we lack courage to go when we should

It is time to finish the big race and succeed

Anything less sells us short of our final deed

All should count their blessings—so many

God fills us up with much joy for all and any

Life’s journey seems like a marathon run

Take it one day at a time, enjoy the fun!

Cherished Partner

From Psalm 85:10-11:  “Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other.  Faithfulness will spring up from the ground, and righteousness will look down from the sky.”

Love joins together

Blessed from God above

Faithful life journey

Sharing precious love

Love binds forever

Stirred from God above

Grace’s living bread

Feeding sincere love

Love resolves trials

Strength from God above

Hope flows eternal

Walking in His love

Love’s cherished partner

Blooms from God above

Daily life smiles back

Breathing trust in love

Love climbs each mountain

Backed by God above

Humble hands touching

Bonding in His love

Country music entertainer Marty Robbins (1925-1982) was a gifted vocalist and songwriter.  In 1970 he wrote and recorded “My Woman, My Woman, My Wife.”  His efforts were awarded with a Grammy for Best Country Music Song.  This song served as some of the inspiration behind this poem.

Time’s Traveler

Photo by Ekaterina Belinskaya on Pexels.com

Generations marching

Clock’s hands never stand still

Time’s traveler journeys

Years navigate downhill

History’s recorder

Passport to each event

Time’s traveler writing

Every book’s contents

Stories fill with people

Exploits reign paramount

Time’s traveler sees all

His recollections count

Worldly landmarks indexed

Mile after mile recalls

Time’s traveler postcards

Destination now calls

Energy never sleeps

Chronicles each step

Time’s traveler breathing

At library’s doorstep
