As believers, we need to continually trust that our Father will guide our faith to embrace His promise of bringing us to eternity’s shore.

James H. Aughey Quote

Holiness consists of three things:  separation from sin, dedication to God, transformation into Christ’s image.

From 1 Peter 1:15-16:  “Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance.  Instead, as He who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct, for it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.'”

James H. Aughey (1828-1911) was an American minister.  During the Civil War, he was imprisoned and scheduled to be executed for his anti-Secession and pro-Union beliefs.  Fortunately, he was able to escape from his Confederate captors and reached the lines of the Union army.

Sadly, in today’s world of tiny bursts of information, we sometimes miss the rest of the story.

Hope’s Clear Light

From Colossians 1:4-5:  “For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.  You have heard of this hope before in the word of the truth, the gospel that has come to you.”

Faith in Jesus Christ

Rising with hope’s clear light

Love descends from Heaven

Fulfilling mercy’s flight

Faith speaks through God’s Word

Nourishing truth each day

Whisper of light to trust

Breathing hope, never gray

Faith targets saint’s heart

Sowing each faithful seed

Spirit nurtures each one

Blessing how hope shall feed

Faith’s patient journey

Praying to Lord above

Strengthened steps persevere

Uniting with hope’s love

Faith’s kingdom shall come

Redeeming with love’s grace

Father, Son, and Spirit

Offering hope’s embrace

From Colossians 1:12-13:  “Giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.  He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son.”

Grace needs to be shared over and over again to infuse greater hope.

Oswald Chambers Quote

The grace you had yesterday will not do for today.  Grace is the overflowing favor of God; you can always reckon it is there to draw upon.  Pray now; draw on the grace of God in the moment of need.

From 2 Corinthians 6:1-2:  “As we work together with Him, we entreat you also not to accept the grace of God in vain.  For He says, “At an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you.’  Look, now is the acceptable time; look, now is the day of salvation!”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

The maturing spirit of a past memory sometimes waits for a most opportune time to be experienced . . . again.

Monday Memories: Keep It Simple

From Proverbs 15:15:  “All the days of the poor are hard, but a cheerful heart has a continual feast.”

Photo by Alexander Zvir on Pexels.com

Life draining, more exhausted each day

Skies and mind, filling with darkest gray

Feet feeling locked, stuck in deepest mud

Fear turns on its spigot, now a flood

Advice shouts from all comers, all sides

Inner soul overwhelmed, faith divides

Daily walk, no longer stunning bright

Chaos reigns, becoming lasting night

Seasoned man, parked at Main Street’s corner

Life hits pause, who is this foreigner?

His thoughts and words, simple in their task

Holy Spirit reaches, to unmask

Keep it simple, fill your life with love

God’s peace, bringing comfort from above

In an instant, the wise sage departs

Night transforms to day, love fills this heart

From 1 John 5:3-4:  “ For the love of God is this, that we obey His commandments.  And His commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world.  And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith.”

It’s refreshing how a simple pause in one’s day offers an open door when one needs it most.

Thomas Watson Quote

Faith believes as if it did not work, and it works as if it did not believe.

From 1 Corinthians 3:8:  “The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and each will receive wages according to their own labor.”

Thomas Watson (1620-1686) was an English Puritan preacher and Christian author.
