Foggy Presence

Morn’s foggy presence

Hiding life itself

Nature’s thick blanket

Covering herself

Damp, misty drizzle

Adding with each drop

Nature’s wet coating

Causing traffic stops

Time waits, suspended

Clouding over sky

Nature’s shy retreat

Blocking watchful eyes

Cool air presses in

Chilling every bone

Nature’s icy balm

Spreading frigid zone

Another hour hides

Leaving denser fog

Nature’s signature

Sleeping dialogue

Taken in the fall of 2021, this foggy scene comes from Walnut Woods Metro Park.

Redeemer Almighty

From Job 19:25:  “For I know that my vindicator lives and that in the end He will stand upon the earth.”

From Psalm 19:14:  “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”

Living in weakness

Walking this barren land

Redeemer Almighty

Searching for His hand

Feeling emptiness

Finding Gospel’s password

Redeemer Almighty

Feeding on His Word

Wandering journey

Hungering for His peace

Redeemer Almighty

Unlocking life’s lease

Accepting His grace

Hearing hallowed Good News

Redeemer Almighty

Stepping up to choose

Lasting faithfulness

Scaling redemption’s ridge

Redeemer Almighty

Building Heaven’s bridge

Welsh-born Methodist preacher William Williams (1717-1791) wrote the inspiring lyrics of the hymn, “Guide Me Ever, Great Redeemer.”  When one hears the verses, it is easy to appreciate his nickname, “Watts of Wales.”  Some translations of the hymn are titled “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah.”

Monday Memories: Never Forsaken

man sitting on edge facing sunset

Photo by Abhiram Prakash on Pexels.com

Life feels upside down

Angry with fists clenched

Barking back at God

You have forsaken me

Please, please my Lord

Don’t push me away

Heart fills with courage

Waiting for my God

Look around to witness

Patience comes to many

Those immersed in faith

Righteous saints never forsaken

God asks for perseverance

More to one’s life

Than just plain enduring

Bring me staying power

God is my stronghold

In times of distress

For those seeking him

God will never forsake

God always walks ahead

He was with Moses

He’ll be with you

Never to forsake you

Ask for God’s protection

Through faithful, fervent prayer

God’s justice will return

Never, ever be forsaken

Open hands, open arms

Looking up toward God

Submitting to my Lord

Never to be forsaken

Counting Stars

From Psalm 40:11:  “Do not, O Lord, withhold Your mercy from me; let Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness keep me safe forever.”

Looking to heavens

Counting tiny stars

Vast universe speaks

Lifting faith’s crossbar

Seeking God’s mercy

Searching for one sign

Bethlehem stable

Trusting His design

Unleashing His plan

Placing feet on rock

Saved from sinking sand

Joining Savior’s flock

Praying every hour

Walking toward grace

Calvary’s cross weeps

Darkening hope’s place

Counting just one star

Praising light from God

Empty tomb proclaims

Filling faith’s seedpod

Looking Forward

From Lamentations 5:7:  “Our ancestors sinned; they are no more, and we bear their iniquities.”

Photo by Attilio Grassi on Pexels.com

Life’s actions turning left

Mindless thoughts moving right

Endless, fruitless efforts

Waiting in depths of night

Tarnished hours filled with sin

Darkness sails for Hell’s fire

Tumult of restless seas

Facing evil’s crossfire

Righteousness marks new life

Son of God offers grace

Selfish aims fall away

Walking without disgrace

Always looking forward

Salvation’s cost, high-priced

Blood on Calvary’s cross

Looking to face of Christ

Mercy removes blindness

Empty tomb raises hope

Old ways crumble to dust

Clutching redemption’s rope

From Romans 3:23-24:  “Since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are now justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”

Joy of Worship

From Psalm 84:3-4:  “Even the sparrow finds a home and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at Your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.  Happy are those who live in Your house, ever singing Your praise.”

Photo by Nick Haynes on Pexels.com

Dwelling in God’s house

Joy of worship sings

Grace always flowing

From eternal springs

Lord ever present

Blessing living things

Promises now filled

Trust in Lord shall ring

Sparrows and swallows

Building each new nest

Creation’s new home

God never at rest

Signs of Father’s love

Worshipping with praise

Spirit of hope breathes

Strength in Him shall raise

Walking with Jesus

Peace never departs

Favor and honor

Love fills every heart

With lyrics inspired from Psalm 32:8 (words of David) and Matthew 8:26 (words  of Jesus), the Gospel-rich hymn of “His Eye is on the Sparrow” shares a stirring and encouraging message.  Civilla D Martin wrote these lyrics in 1905 with the composition from Charles H. Gabriel.
