Billy Graham Quote

The Christian life is not a constant high.  I have my moments of deep discouragement.  I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, “O God, forgive me,” or “Help me.”

From Joshua 1:9:  “I hereby command you:  Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Daily Prayer

Dear Lord

Make me a man

Of fervent prayer

God’s Holy Word

Commands me to pray

Without ceasing

Encourage me

To bring everything

To you my Lord

When discouraged

Let me pray

You are my refuge

When joyful

Let me offer

Prayers of thanksgiving

In all things

Great and small

At all times

Whether happy or sad

Let me seek

Your wisdom and grace

Amen

Today, may God bring you the courage to ask him for guidance.  Ask Him to lead you to a “right” place.

Why?

On the morning news, I was watching a young girl bravely and calmly give an account of the carnage at a San Diego, California synagogue shooting that took place recently.  Around the world, people of faith have been attacked in their houses of worship.  I stopped and asked my Lord . . . Why?

Psalm 26:5:  “I hate the company of evildoers and will not sit with the wicked.”

Psalm 68:1:  “Let God rise up let His enemies be scattered; let those who hate Him flee before Him.”

Dear Lord

Sitting here

Watching news

Wondering again

Why?

Darkness comes

Another shooting

More violence

Why?

Godly people

With faith

Under attack

Why?

Where does

Such hate

Come from

Why?

Turning to

Reading scripture

Praying fervently

Why?

Our Father

Bring all

Faithful strength

Amen!

As I was preparing this poem, I took a moment to go back to a previous poem about prayer.  I found some peace from Morning Prayer.

Only God can move mountains, but faith and prayer can move God.

From Mark 11:23:   “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. “

Morning Prayer

I was reading a devotional based on some of the text found in Psalm 103.  The reading and the Psalm provided me with an urge to write this poem.  The Psalm is filled with many inspiring verses.  Here is one from Psalm 103:8:

“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”

Morning arrives quietly with much on one’s mind

Reaching out to the Father, with a prayer to find

Psalms surrounding one’s inner soul with a frame

Blessing God the Father, blessing His Holy name

Thoughts move to life’s trials, several filled with sin

Asking the Lord for patience and forgiveness again

The Lord redeems this wayward life from the Pit

Seeking to be closer to Him, finding a place to sit

God fills all with His steadfast love and praise

Helping everyone make it through life’s maze

The Lord is merciful, gracious, and forgiving

Praying to Him deepens a person with living

This time of prayer offers much humbleness to the Lord

Slow to anger and abounding with so much love in store

A prayerful moment prepares a heart with much to say

Spending moments with God, like a potter molding clay
