Love’s Goodness

From Ephesians 1:4-5:  “Just as He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him in love.  He destined us for adoption as His children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will.”

Father’s divine design

Anchored in His love

Through our Lord Jesus Christ

Grace shines from above

Father showing mercy

Love’s eternal gift

Patient kindness sending

Life-changing airlift

Father guiding all things

Built around His love

Sending His only Son

Hope reigns from above

Father always believes

Love’s goodness in man

Rejoicing in His truth

Redemption’s firm plan

Father’s forgiving act

Filled with lasting love

His wisdom and insight

Praise His glory above

From 1 Corinthians 13:4-6:  “Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.  It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable; it keeps no record of wrongs; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth.”

Charles Stanley Quote

Because God love us, we can trust how He wants to shape our lives.

From Isaiah 45:9:  “Woe to those who strive with their Maker, earthen vessels with the potter!  Does the clay say to the one who fashions it, ‘What are you making’? or ‘Your work has no handles’?”

Saint Augustine Quote

I love you, Lord, not doubtingly, but with absolute certainty.  Your Word beat upon my heart until I fell in love with you, and now the universe and everything in it tells me to love you.

From Ephesians 1:3-4:  “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, just as He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him in love.”

Hungry and Thirsty

From the words of American pastor and Christian teacher, Charles Stanley:  “Only a believer of God can experience full satisfaction and a yearning love for Him.”

Wilderness in one’s heart

Seeking mankind’s rewards

Shivering emptiness

Chasing promised awards

Dry, desolate landscape

Running this futile race

Clinging to sinful ways

Chasing hollow, false grace

Life comes to its crossroads

Starving for daily bread

Craving living water

Searching highway ahead

God intercedes with love

Filling body and soul

Sharing mercy and grace

Believing, life made whole

From Psalm 63:5:  “My soul is satisfied as with a rich feast, and my mouth praises you with joyful lips.”

Sprinting to Daylight

From Psalm 97:10-11:  “You who love the Lord, hate evil; He guards the lives of His faithful; He rescues them from the hand of the wicked.  Light dawns for the righteous and joy for the upright in heart.”

Surrounding darkness

Evil’s world abounds

Life’s hesitation

Sinful, barking sounds

Playing with evil

Like kitchen’s hot stove

Waiting to burn us

Consuming faith’s grove

Hearing Father’s Word

Explicit warning

Hate evil, love God

Righteous good morning

Evil’s deception

Ignore its calling

Turning from darkness

Sinful flesh falling

Life’s new page opens

His goodness unfolds

Sprinting to daylight

Safe in God’s stronghold

From the words of  American pastor and Christian teacher, Charles Stanley:  “When we learn to hate evil, we learn to love what God loves.”

His Right Hand

From Psalm 139:9-10:  “If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me fast.”

Story of doomed community

Losing its way, darkness surrounds

Hunger fueling gang violence

Crying out, injustice abounds

Life crushed in spirit, wandering

Wrecking faith, living defeated

Racism walks with extremism

Bringing sin’s death, feeling cheated

From dark despair, running away

Running to us, God with His grace

Love and mercy fill empty cups

Accepting His gift, let’s embrace

God’s right hand covers this land

Striking out envy, hate, and greed

Spirit finds us lost in life’s fog

Plowing under each sin-filled seed

Chaos no longer shatters dreams

Offering true, forgiving peace

God’s right hand, never grows weary

Lifting up lives, shall never cease

From Psalm 89:13-14:  “You have a mighty arm; strong is Your hand, high Your right hand.  Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before You.”

Grace Taking Root

From John 1:16-17:  “From His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.  The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”

Best and worst of times

God’s grace always chimes

Loving and caring

Promises bearing

God remains at hand

Faith and hope shall stand

Seeking empty hearts

Molding time’s restart

Life’s melody plays

Offer Him our praise

God’s grace taking root

Peace filling love’s flute

Gloom and doom appear

Allow Him to steer

God’s love shows He cares

Guiding day’s affairs

Hope’s beacon awaits

In His hands, our fate

Witness as His child

Life no longer wild

Forgiveness and love

Shared from God above

God’s grace shapes life’s frame

Praise His Holy name

From Lamentations 3:22-23:  “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

This poem is inspired from some past entries in my “Take-Aways” journal.  Each entry is based upon something read and studied in a morning devotional.

Promises

From the words of American pastor and Christian teacher, Charles Stanley:  “When we trust God to provide the stamina for the work He calls us to do, we are clothed in power.”

Walking these roads for so long

Sin short-circuits dusty steps

Trust’s gauge running on empty

Darkness knocking at doorstep

Facing life’s tall shortcomings

Empty promises sell short

Holy Spirit calling now

Time to seek Father’s support

Hearing faithful promises

His Spirit brings fortitude

Truly believe, seeking Him

Bread of Life, God’s daily food

Turning to Jesus Christ

Living water quenches thirst

Savior clothes with grace-filled love

His promises, always first

Strengthening life’s weaknesses

Holy promises bring light

Eyes open, hearts enlightened

New life trusts in Father’s might

From Luke 24:49:  “And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Follow His Footsteps

From Romans 12:1-2:  “I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Imperfect humans

Walking darkest trails

World twists upside down

Christ calls, without fail

World crying out with

Endless, empty claims

Filled with dead end thoughts

Christ drowns looming flames

Noisy distractions

Countless temptations

Follow His footsteps

Christ’s supplications

Waking to darkness

God’s will lights each day

Struggling with life’s sin

Christ bridges the way

Share genuine love

Holding fast to good

Serving the Father

Christ transforms driftwood

Zealous in spirit

Rejoicing in hope

Walk with humbleness

Christ’s love helps us cope

Marked with our Lord’s truth

Walk with Christian steps

Soul and mind renewed

Follow Christ’s footsteps

From Hebrews 6:19-20:  “We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the curtain, where Jesus, a forerunner on our behalf, has entered, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”

River of Life

From Psalm 92:12-15:  “The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.  They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.  In old age they still produce fruit; they are always green and full of sap, showing that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”

River of life, unceasing in its travels

Mysteries of life, shall ever unravel

From heavenly source, cascades living water

Shaping clay, molded by Creation’s potter

When ultimate challenges travel too high

Overcoming all odds, courage one’s ally

Life’s purpose, taking self far from safety’s home

Discovering meaning, hidden catacombs

Fate knocking, invisible hand clearly seen

Traveling waters, transparent with routine

Years continue to advance, filled with Lord’s grace

Breathing enduring joy, from life’s timeless chase

Life’s sunset glimmers, over cloudless skyline

Looking back, years richer than any gold mine

Mysteries of life, eternally fulfilled

River of life, journey which only God builds

From the words of American pastor and Christian teacher, Charles Stanley:  “Our bodies may age, but we get old only if we choose to do so–attitude is what makes the difference.”
