Faithful Journey

From Psalm 85:8-9:  “Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people, to His faithful, to those who turn to Him in their hearts.  Surely His salvation is at hand for those who fear Him, that His glory may dwell in our land.”

Uncertain darkness

Surrounds me this day

Humbly take a knee

Bowing now to pray

Prayers calling God

Remain unhurried

Unanswered questions

Never be worried

Christ’s teachings feed thee

With the bread of life

This eternal gift

Blessings without strife

Lord of life and love

He feeds and frees all

Through His Holy Word

Never builds a wall

Allow me to pause

God prods thee along

Hearing His questions

Answers make me strong

God everlasting

Faith remains with thee

Through life’s harsh chaos

Calming stormy seas

From Romans 10:10-13:  “ For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.  The scripture says, ‘No one who believes in Him will be put to shame.’  For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on Him.  For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'”

Accepting His Way

From Romans 6:1-2:  “What then are we to say?  Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound?  By no means!  How can we who died to sin go on living in it?”

All have been baptized into Christ

God’s offer of Grace shall abound

Christ suffering death on the Cross

Accepting His way, God’s Word found

Living with God through our Savior

United with Jesus by His death

Walking in goodness of new life

Accepting His way, lasting breath

Escaping life of sin and death

Obedient to God’s commands

Following our righteous Father

Accepting His way, where we stand

Knowing God through His Holy Word

Rescued, no longer slaves to sin

Total devotion to Jesus

Accepting His way, love within

From Romans 6:12-14:  “Therefore, do not let sin exercise dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions.  No longer present your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness.  For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.”

Spiritual Messengers

From the words of Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher, Oswald Chambers:  “We are not turned into spiritual mediums, but into spiritual messengers; the message must be part of ourselves.”

Our time here on this earth

Limited and finite

Humble servants of God

Carry on the good fight

Called to spread the Good News

Find one person at a time

Urged to evangelize

Sharing God’s paradigm

Giving us strength in faith

Our Lord standing with us

Invite all to listen

Proclaim His truth, a plus

As our God’s messengers

Hearts broken by our flaws

Baptized by Holy Spirit

Drafted into His cause

From 2 Timothy 4:2:  “Proclaim the message; be persistent whether the time is favorable or unfavorable; convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the utmost patience in teaching.”

Struggling with God over the issues of life doesn’t show a lack of faith–it is faith.

From Matthew 8:24-26:  “A windstorm arose on the sea, so great that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but He [Jesus] was asleep.  And they went and woke Him up, saying, ‘Lord, save us!  We are perishing!’  And He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, you of little faith?’  Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a dead calm.”

Feelings of Uncertainty

From Matthew 8:24-26:  “A windstorm arose on the sea, so great that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but He [Jesus] was asleep.  And they went and woke Him up, saying, ‘Lord, save us!  We are perishing!’  And He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, you of little faith?’  Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a dead calm.”

Threatened again by life’s turbulent storms

Feeling life adrift, outside of God’s norms

Feelings of uncertainty rise and bubble up

Flooding hearts with doubt, an empty cup

Walking life’s endless road challenges us

Experiencing feelings of fear, never a plus

Darkness quietly creeps into our peaceful place

Feeling alone, faith weakens from our daily race

Our God, never far away from our uncertain life walk

Replacing doubt, His Word will stand up as our rock

Our God never leaves us feeling alone at life’s curb

Growing through His love, always fulfilling and superb

Seeking our Holy God in the best of times

Finding Him in the midst of darkest climbs

Our God’s steady presence strengthens our resolve

Calming our darkest fears, they simply will dissolve

God’s love never wavers, a bright eternity to be filled

Answering prayers, restoring each soul, faith rebuilds

From the words of Christian author Lee Strobel, “Struggling with God over the issues of life doesn’t show a lack of faith–that is faith.”

Old Man Trouble

From the words of British pastor and theologian, Charles Spurgeon:  “The closer we are to the Shepherd, the safer we are from the wolves.”

Encountering another of life’s setbacks

Visitor from the darkness shouts, “I am back”

Old Man Trouble comes knocking at my front door

Relentless, he desires to even the score

How will I choose to deal with adversity?

His darkness masks the sky over this city

Tackle straight forward what Old Man Trouble brings

Or . . . wait timidly for his continued sting

God’s Word teaches us and brings us hope:

We all live preciously in God’s perfect sight

He gathers us in His loving, Holy might

Past—present—future . . . from the Great I Am

Making it through turbulent seas for each lamb

Through desolate wilderness, God shares a way

Bringing rivers of hope to this life’s gateway

Photo by Nashwan Guherzi on Pexels.com

Looking Old Man Trouble in his doom-filled eyes

With faithful courage, my hope begins to rise

Life waits to see . . . who will finally blink first?

With God’s living water, quenching my parched thirst

Listening, following God’s steadfast handbook

His love will save me with a whole new outlook

Bringing Godly fortitude, when needed most

Old Man Trouble defeated, nothing to boast

From Isaiah 43:2-3:  “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.  For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

Healing Our Divisions

This poem is written as a traditional Sonnet, but it can certainly be read as a prayer.  God’s peace!

Lives pretending to follow a Holy God

Being of the flesh, greater than the spirit

Living as infants in our Lord Jesus Christ

Thirsty for our Father’s love, we shall fear it

Life filled with jealousy and quarrelsome times

Behaving outside of our Father’s design

Belonging to the Left, beholding the Right

Only walking with Jesus, should lives align

Sowing life’s seeds for a bountiful harvest

Thirsty for true living water and care

This world’s Master Builder brings His hope-filled Grace

Humbling kneeling at the Cross, hear our prayers

Only through our Lord Jesus, rests our foundation

Unifying voices throughout this nation

From 1 Corinthians 3:21-23:  “So let no one boast about human leaders.  For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all belong to you, and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.”

Peyton Manning Quotes

I committed my life to Christ, and that faith has been most important to me ever since.

I pray every night, sometimes long prayers about a lot of things and a lot of people, but I don’t talk about it or brag about it because that’s between God and me, and I’m no better than anybody else in God’s sight.

His Greatness Stands

From Psalm 146:1-2:  “Praise the LordPraise the Lord, O my soul!  I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long.”

Photo by Zachary DeBottis on Pexels.com

Bless the Lord’s name forever

Sing praises for Holy deeds

His greatness stands infinite

Loving us like tender reeds

Witness our Lord’s mighty acts

Share with each generation

His greatness lauds His goodness

Building our firm foundation

Recall love works from His hands

Fueled by Grace’s steadfast love

His greatness flows with mercy

Protecting us from above

Call on the Father this day

Pray to Him on humble knees

His greatness lighting the way

Watching over all He sees

From Psalm 145:17-18:  “The Lord is just in all his ways, and kind in all his doings.  The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
