Edmund Burke Quote

Patience achieves more than our force.

From James 1:12:  “Blessed is anyone who endures temptation.  Such a one has stood the test and will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”

Edmund Burke (1729-1797) was an Anglo-Irish statesman, economist, and philosopher.  He served in the British House of Commons from 1766-1794.

Puzzle Incomplete

From Romans 5:5:  “Hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.”

Trust’s missing pieces

Empty vision’s space

Puzzle incomplete

Father’s grace, replace

Fear’s lack of patience

Filled with anxious space

Puzzle defective

Father’s grace, backspace

Shame’s torn-up pages

Tattered, sinful space

Puzzle uncertain

Father’s grace, erase

Hope’s shattered darkness

Doubts drain daily space

Puzzle fragmented

Father’s grace, embrace

Faith’s empty focus

Lost in prideful space

Puzzle imperfect

Father’s grace, retrace

From Romans 8:27:  “And God, who searches hearts, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

When we encounter life’s puzzle with all of its mismatched pieces, only the Word of the Lord can help us to faithfully sort them all out . . . one hopeful piece at a time.

John Barth Quote

The Bible is not man’s word about God, but God’s Word about man.

From Genesis 1:1-4:  “When God began to create the heavens and the earth, the earth was complete chaos, and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.  Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.  And God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness.”

John Barth (born 1930) is an American writer who is best known for his works of fiction.

Monday Memories: Witnessing a Foretaste

Looking outside from the kitchen table offers a view each morning of how our Lord presents each day as a precious gift.  Here is a mini sonnet which witnesses a foretaste of the feast to come.

Viewing the early morning

Welcoming each libation

Peering from kitchen’s window

Witnessing God’s creation

Growing greener, grass below

Blooming, flowers spelling love

Witnessing creative hands

Working each day from above

Taking in this peaceful scene

Witnessing each day’s foretaste

Blessing each feast, more to come

Tasting moments, without haste

Witnessing God’s daily Grace

Making life a happy place
