Jon Meacham Quotes

In our finest hours, though, the soul of the country manifests itself in an indication to open our arms rather than to clench our fists.

Politicians often talk too much and listen too little, which can be self-defeating.

Jon Meacham (born 1969) is an American writer, historian, and American President biographer.  He is currently the Canon Historian of the Washington National Cathedral.  He has been awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Biography from his published work about American President Andrew Jackson.

D. L. Moody Quote

The preaching that this world needs most is sermons in shoes that are walking with Jesus Christ.

From Romans 6:4:  “Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.”

D. L. Moody (1837-1899), also known as Dwight Lyman Moody, was an American evangelist and Christian teacher.  He is frequently credited with inspiring modern mass revivalism.

Landscape Thirsts

Early morning rain drops in

Landscape thirsts for blessed drink

Graceful flowers dance and spin

Timeless pause while nature thinks

Tender leaf enjoys her bath

Gentle droplets trickle down

Soft grass carpets nature’s path

Destiny wearing her crown

Silence breaks from quiet mist

Terrain transforms with delight

Nature feels like being kissed

Peace fills every pore with light

Sky gracefully opens up

Rays of sunshine descending

Creator fills every cup

Nature never pretending

Turning to Jesus

From Psalm 18:2-3:  “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, so I shall be saved from my enemies.”

Darkest storms rocking our world

Feeling faith washing away

Turning to Jesus, we hope

His solid rock, never sways

Raging floods rocking life’s peace

Hearing His bold, righteous voice

Turning to Jesus, we kneel

His solid rock, let’s rejoice

Perils rocking daily lives

Seeking comfort in His grace

Turning to Jesus, we pray

His solid rock, let’s embrace

No longer rocking in fear

Stepping over sinking sand

Turning to Jesus, we praise

His solid rock, holds our hand

Rick Warren Quote

Only participation in the full life of a local church builds spiritual muscle.

From 1 Corinthians 3:9:  “ For we are God’s coworkers, working together; you are God’s field, God’s building.”

Acting Duo Quotes

Paul Newman (1925-2008)

A man can only be judged by his actions, and not by his good intentions or his beliefs.

Robert Redford (born 1936)

Be careful of success; it has a dark side.

American actor Paul Newman’s life was much more than just the films he starred in. While he earned an Academy Award for Best Actor in “The Color of Money” (1986), he left an indelible footprint with his efforts as philanthropist and entrepreneur.

American actor Robert Redford starred in two films with Paul Newman:  “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” (1969) and “The Sting” (1973).  Redford’s directing skills have received four Academy Award nominations with one win for “Ordinary People” (1980).

Monday Memories: Grounded Through God

From Psalm 119:105:  “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Life’s trials spinning around us

Challenging our unsteady beliefs

Grounded through God, we must trust

Bringing His Grace, granting us relief

Spiritually grounded, seeking refuge

Walking along God’s chosen path

Life chooses from God’s menu

Always correct, computes God’s math

Prayer time, our Father’s time

Encouraging one another

God delivers a new paradigm

His plan replaces all others

Sincerely humbling our hearts

Hearing God’s truthful Word

Our Lord proclaims a new start

Actions can no longer be deferred

Grounded through God

Anchoring to His cornerstone

He banishes the Enemy’s fraud

With our Lord, never alone
