When we stay focused on Jesus, we can take comfort in knowing He’ll lead us through the hard places.

From Isaiah 41:10:  “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with My victorious right hand.”

Children are the most wonderful audience.

I think books are like people, in the sense that they’ll turn up in your life when you most need them.

Emma Thompson (born 1959) is a British actress who has received countless honors for her film work.  She has been honored with two Academy Awards, three BAFTA  Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and one Primetime Emmy Award.

Monday Memories: Melody in the Woods

Music permeates through the woods

Listen closely, can you hear it?

This melody brings a sense of calm

Nature witnesses a new hit

Calmness radiates from a banjo

Listen again, can you feel it?

Life pauses, taking in this song

Appreciate this moment, let’s sit

Even in darker times, comes light

Listen now, can you feel its blitz?

Calming tune filling every heart

Playing a banjo, without the glitz

People reaching out to others

Living as sisters and brothers

Steve Martin is an accomplished banjo player, and he shares a message of calmness and peace from the woods with his own self-video performance.   This video inspired the writing of this poem.

Leonard Cohen Quotes

Photo by ROMAN ODINTSOV on Pexels.com

There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.  (Taken from his song “Anthem”)

You who wish to conquer pain, you must learn what makes one kind.

Leonard Cohen (1934-2016) was a Canadian-American singer-songwriter as well as a poet and novelist.

Sustaining Refuge

From Psalm 31:1-2:  “In you, O Lord, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame; in Your righteousness deliver me.  Incline Your ear to me; rescue me speedily.  Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.”

Facing life’s overwhelming odds

Darkness invades, hope crashing down

Searching for sustaining refuge

Forsaking another showdown

Emptiness penetrates deeply

Faith weakening, now feeling mocked

Each empty promise calling out

Distant future forever locked

Calling to Father above

Reaching for His righteous-filled hand

Praying for heavenly rescue

Grasping mercy, fleeing quicksand

Light overcomes evil’s doomsday

God’s promises, always to trust

Mighty fortress restoring faith

Distant future looking robust

From Psalm 31:14-15:  “But I trust in You, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’  My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.”

Traveling in life’s wilderness, we will trust only in God, who will provide lasting refuge through His Word.

Charles Swindoll Quote

God will see to it that in the eyes of those who are now your enemy, you will one day be esteemed.  They will respect your stand because you are standing alone, doing what is right.

From Proverbs 16:7:  “When the ways of people please the Lord, He causes even their enemies to be at peace with them.”
