Life’s stormy tribulations
Landscape filling with despair
Asking, to whom shall we turn?
God’s love coming forth, He cares
Darkness waits at each doorstep
Evil tramples tender reeds
Asking, to whom shall we turn?
God’s caring, sows fertile seeds
With each day, doing our best
Failure waiting once again
Asking, to whom shall we turn?
God’s seeds, breaking chains
Persecution waits nearby
Enemy lines up to strike

American Methodist preacher and gospel hymn composer, Charles Albert Tindley (1851-1933), wrote the lyrics to “Stand By Me” in 1905. Gospel singer Marvin Williams adds his own interpretation to this beloved hymn.
None can believe how powerful prayer is, and what it is able to effect, but those who have learned it by experience.
I know of no better thermometer to your spiritual temperature than this, the measure of the intensity of your prayer.
From 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
When times are tough, the Lord is our only security.
From Matthew 6:25, 31-32: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For it is the gentiles who seek all these things, and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.”
From Matthew 14:23-25: “And after He [Jesus] had dismissed the crowds, He went up the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone, but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. And early in the morning He came walking toward them on the sea.”

God alone can give us songs in the night.
From Mark 5:35-36: “While He was still speaking, some people came from the synagogue leader’s house to say, ‘Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?’ But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the synagogue leader, “Do not be afraid; only believe.'”

All of the above verses are inspired from Romans 5:1-5: “Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.”
Peace doesn’t come until we lay it all out before God and then let God do what only He can do, while doing what we can: even if it’s only praying.
From Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
