Kevin Hart Quotes

I don’t look at obstacles as obstacles.  I look at them as things that were put there for a reason.

Being humble matters.

Monday Memories: Seeking God’s Wisdom

The text used for this poem is based upon Proverbs Chapter 10, with the 10th verse taking center stage:  “The wise lay up knowledge, but the babbling of a fool brings ruin.”

Seeks God’s wisdom

His words bring wealth

A benevolent father

Welcomes a wise child

Virtue always delivers

Never going hungry

The judicious of heart

Follows the Commandments

Always walks in integrity

Makes for a secure life

Boldly calls out trouble

Brings peace to life

Use righteous words

Builds a fountain of life

Hate stirs up trouble

Love heals our offenses

Craves absorbing wisdom

Ignores a blathering fool

Leads an honorable life

Shuns sinful behaviors

Be prudent when speaking

Uses a blameless tongue

Seeks the Lord’s blessings

Comes in reverent prayer

Follows our heavenly Father

His stronghold protects us

Our own knowledge seems inadequate at times.  Only by accepting the Lord’s wisdom will His navigation carry us through.

Oswald Chambers Quote

Every time we have gone back in spiritual communion it has been because we have impertinently known better than Jesus Christ.  We have allowed the cares of the world to come in, and have forgotten the “much more” of our Heavenly Father.

From Matthew 6:30:  “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you—you of little faith?”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

Facing Another Hour

From Colossians 3:2:  “Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth.”

Temptations swirl all around

Feeling peace turning sour

Life spinning out of control

Facing another hour

Distractions overwhelm hopes

Setting each one aside

Wisdom’s courage reaches out

Becoming journey’s guide

Darkness fading before Light

Seeing evil no more

Character nurtured with grace

Aiming for heaven’s shore

Blessings from Father above

Warming each heart with praise

Courage flowing from wisdom

Lasting spirit ablaze

Charles Swindoll Quote

Photo by doTERRA International, LLC on Pexels.com

God works by simply stepping into our ordinary day of life and saying what He wants to say.  It’s a meat-and-potatoes kind of proposition.  Here’s what needs doing, and you’re the person who’s going to do it, “so let’s get after it.”

From Proverbs 8:22:  “The Lord created me at the beginning of His work, the first of His acts of long ago.”

Featured Facts

Virginian John Tyler was the 10th President of the United States.  Upon the untimely death of President William Henry Harrison, Vice President Tyler assumed the office of President.

Here are some interesting facts about John Tyler:

  • Occupation:   Lawyer
  • Political Party:  Whig
  • Previous federal government high offices:  Vice President, Virginia Governor, and U.S. Senator

Tyler was the first American Vice President to become President following the death of his predecessor.  He was nicknamed by his detractors as “His Accidency.”

As a single-term President, Tyler served from 1841-1845.  He became the first President to have a veto overridden by Congress.

Tyler was the first President to marry while in office.  Following the death of his first wife, he remarried.  He fathered a total of 15 children, which has remained the most of any President.

Born in 1790, Tyler grew up during the early years of the American republic.  Prior to his death in 1862, he worked behind the scenes to preserve the Union before the start of the Civil War.  He was very much against secession, but his loyalty to Virginia caused him to side with the Confederacy.
