Monday Memories: His Greatness Stands

From Psalm 146:1-2:  “Praise the LordPraise the Lord, O my soul!  I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long.”

Bless the Lord’s name forever

Sing praises for Holy deeds

His greatness stands infinite

Loving us like tender reeds

Witness our Lord’s mighty acts

Share with each generation

His greatness lauds His goodness

Building our firm foundation

Recall love works from His hands

Fueled by Grace’s steadfast love

His greatness flows with mercy

Protecting us from above

Call on the Father this day

Pray to Him on humble knees

His greatness lighting the way

Watching over all He sees

From Psalm 145:17-18:  “The Lord is just in all his ways, and kind in all his doings.  The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”

Hope’s Faith

From 1 Peter 1:6-7:  “In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith—being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

Blessed Jesus Christ

His mercy shares love

Brings forth faith’s new birth

Hope stirs from above

Resurrected Christ

His unfading light

He walks among us

Hope ready for flight

Revealed through Jesus

Grace walks within Him

Freed from sin’s darkness

Hope breathes with each hymn

Spirit filled by Christ

More precious than gold

Molds faith’s salvation

Hope rebuilds foothold

Trust in Jesus Christ

Father’s righteous Son

Called to embrace Him

Hope’s faith in the One

Monday Memories: Scenic Mountain Vistas

Sitting home, isolated and alone

Taking virtual trips, changes life’s tone

America’s landscapes invite us in

Scenic mountain vistas, adventures grin

Alaska Range, home to our northernmost peaks

Denali “the tall one” forever speaks

Cascade Range roams the Pacific Northwest

Snow-capped volcanoes offer stunning quests

Sierra Nevada’s enchanted land

Host national parks, majestic and grand

Rocky Mountains form this nation’s backbone

Stunning beauty, more precious than gemstones

Sawtooth Mountains salute from Idaho

Endless summits bring skiers to the snow

Bighorn Mountains, sacred to native ways

Montana-Wyoming border sings praise

Adirondack Mountains, New York’s playground

Winter skiing, fall foliage—best around

Great Smoky Mountains push for Tennessee

Fog-covered peaks, spellbinding all agree

Blue Ridge Mountains welcome us back home

Free-flowing Shenandoah smiles and roams

Wherever you live or where your travels take you, you may have a favorite mountain paradise.  One of my precious favorites is the Beartooth Mountains in south-central Montana, a stone’s throw away from Yellowstone National Park.

You are invited to share one of your special places in the comments.

Mercy Delivers

From Psalm 107:1-2:  “O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.  Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, those He redeemed from trouble.”

Photo by cottonbro studio on Pexels.com

Facing journey’s many troubles

Wilderness darkness creeping in

Praying to heavens high above

God’s unshaken love, faith’s linchpin

Praising God for enduring grace

Thirsty hunger, now quenched and fed

Sharing thanks for every sunrise

Faith nourished with His daily bread

Witnessing God’s benevolence

His wondrous works shall never end

Turning deserts into rivers

Faithful courage shall now defend

Breaking free from sin’s chains of gloom

Salvation descends from heavens

Shattering enemy’s falsehoods

Taste of freedom, blessed with leaven

Redeeming from journey’s troubles

God’s mercy delivers His light

Covering landscape with His peace

Darkness gives up her final fight

From Psalm 107:8-9:  “Let them thank the Lord for His steadfast love, for His wonderful works to humankind.  For He satisfies the thirsty, and the hungry He fills with good things.”

This series of poems (written in the German-inspired style of Elfchen or Elevenie) shares a total of eleven words in each poem, with a sequence by line of one, two, three, four, and one words.

Treasure State’s Journey

Montana’s Crazy Mountains as pictured outside of the town of Big Timber. This photo was taken in late May, yet there remained substantial snow visible on the peaks.

Waking up on cold, frigid, winter morn

Looking like snowy storms, soon to be born

Pulling warm covers over this bare head

Let’s fast forward to new season instead

Always dreaming with bigness every night

Never alone, tasting perfect delight

Traveling ahead to hot summer day

Feeling urge to jump up, shouting to say

Has one ever seen more beautiful sky?

Sensational, unblemished blue so high

Treasure State’s journey, mines purest pleasures

Opening saddlebag, full of treasures

Shining high above, fullest sun in view

Sharing smiles with heavens, always be true

Western hospitality, comes this way

Be sure to come back, as we always say

From warmest hearts, joy overflows with grace

Montana’s Big Sky, lifetime’s “Last Best Place”

This poem reworks the theme from a previously published poem from 2019.  The much-improved verses were inspired by the 1990 publication of The Last Best Place:  A Montana Anthology.  Through eight chapters and over 800 pages, the works of numerous Montana authors can be read.  Each illustrates the unique way of life and history found in Montana’s Big Sky Country.

From the top left and moving clockwise:  Southwestern montana’s tobacco root mountains form the western wall along the madison river valley, montana ingenuity is discovered at a rest area along interstate 90, the hospitality of the community of ennis is found up and down its main street, the former parmly library building in billings–now home to the western heritage center, from a distance the “sphinx” formation is visible along southwestern Montana’s madison range (about 10 miles east of the community of cameron).
