Rejoice and be glad in our God

His steadfast love endures forever

Giving thanks and praise to the Lord

His goodness shall reign forever

In our distress, God hears each cry

Without fear, we follow His way

His Peace driving away our fears

His Mercy filling up our hearts

His voice calls us to His refuge

Our confidence rests with the Lord

His Word comforting our sorrows

His Love healing our many wounds

From Psalm 118:24:  “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

His Holy Son, our cornerstone

Salvation arrives at the Cross

His Grace delivering His love

His righteousness covering sins

God, the Father, blessing Spirit

Through His beloved Son, Jesus

His Wisdom showing us the way

His Manna feeding hungry souls

God’s infinite strength, our fixed Rock

All foes challenging us . . . vanquished!

Rejoice and be glad in our Lord

His steadfast love endures forever

Samuel Johnson Quote

If your determination is fixed, I do not counsel you to despair.  Few things are impossible to diligence and skill.  Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance.

From Proverbs 23:23:  “Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.”

Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) was an English writer.  Many of his published works featured insightful essays, sermons, and poems.

It is the province of knowledge to speak, and it is the privilege of wisdom to listen.

Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (1809-1894) was an American physician, poet, and polymath.  Noted for his advocacy for medical reforms, he was also  an acclaimed writer among his peers.

William Stafford Quotes

I embrace emerging experience.  I participate in discovery.  I am a butterfly.  I am not a butterfly collector.  I want the experience of the butterfly.

Wisdom is having things right in your life and knowing why.

William Stafford (1914-1993) was an American poet.

Mark Twain Quotes

The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug.

When you catch an adjective, kill it.  No, I don’t mean utterly, but kill most of them–then the rest will be valuable.  They weaken when they are close together.  They give strength when they are far apart.

Mark Twain (1835-1910) was an American author and humorist.  He has often been praised as one of America’s greatest humorists, and American writer William Faulkner called him “the father of American Literature.”

Samuel Taylor Coleridge Quotes

Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Silence does not always mark wisdom.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) was an English poet, theologian, and philosopher.  He was considered to be one of the founders of the Romantic Movement in England.

Gene Autry (1907-1998) was an American actor and singer.  Most of his roles in film and television revolved around his love of the West and the American cowboy.  During the 1940s, he wrote up his “Cowboy Commandments.”

  • The Cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man, or take unfair advantage.
  • He must never go back on his word, or a trust confided in him.
  • He must always tell the truth.
  • He must be gentle with children, the elderly, and animals.
  • He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas.
  • He must help people in distress.
  • He must be a good worker.
  • He must keep himself clean in thought, speech, action, and personal habits.
  • He must respect women, parents, and his nation’s laws.
  • The Cowboy is a patriot.
