When we realize that Jesus Christ has served us to the end of our meanness, our selfishness, and sin, nothing that we meet with from others can exhaust our determination to serve men for His sake.

From Matthew 20:26-28:  “It will not be so among you, but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave, just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

The love of God pays no attention to the distinctions made by natural individuality.  If I love my Lord I have no business to be guided by natural temperament; I have to feed His sheep.

From John 21:17:  “He said to him the third time, ‘Simon son of John, do you love Me?’  Peter felt hurt because He said to him the third time, ‘Do you love Me?’  And he said to Him, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love You.’  Jesus said to him, ‘Feed My sheep.'”

God will give us touches of inspiration when He sees we are not in danger of being led away by them.

From 2 Corinthians 5:6-7:  “So we are always confident, even though we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord—for we walk by faith, not by sight.

Every time we have gone back in spiritual communion it has been because we have impertinently known better than Jesus Christ.  We have allowed the cares of the world to come in, and have forgotten the “much more” of our Heavenly Father.

From Matthew 6:30:  “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you—you of little faith?”

In looking back we cannot tell why we did certain things, we did them according to the spontaneous nature of His love for us.

From Romans 5:5:  “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.”

We are uncertain of the next step, but we are certain of God. Immediately we abandon to God, and do the duty that lies nearest, He packs our life with surprises all the time.

From 1 John 3:2:  Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed.  What we do know is this:  when He is revealed, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is.”

God never gives us anything accidental.  Nothing is easier than getting into a right relationship with God except when it is not God whom you want but only what He gives.

From Jeremiah 45:5:  “And you, do you seek great things for yourself?  Do not seek them, for I am going to bring disaster upon all flesh, says the Lord, but I will give you your life as a prize of war in every place to which you may go.”

Jesus has prayed that we might be one with Him as He is one with the Father.

From 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24:  “May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely, and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The one who calls you is faithful, and He will do this.”

The marvel of the Redemption Reality of God is the worst and the vilest can never get to the bottom of His love.  Paul did not say that God separated him to show what a wonderful man He could make of him, but “to reveal His Son in me.”

From 1 Corinthians 4:11-13:  “To the present hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are naked and beaten and homeless, and we grow weary from the work of our own hands.  When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we speak kindly.  We have become like the rubbish of the world, the dregs of all things, to this very day.”

We have to take the first step as though there were no God.  It is no use to wait for God to help us, He will not; but immediately we arise we find He is there.

From Isaiah 60:1:  “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.”
