James Michener (1907-1997)

Character consists of what you do on the third and fourth tries.

An age is called Dark, not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see it.

Monday Memories: 60’s Rock America

This poem was crafted and published back in September, 2019.  The words present a memorable discussion of a most significant decade in American history.  The text is shown with its original wording except where the rhyming format needed updating.

People recall the 60’s, a very “trendy” decade

Rocking America into a new era, never to fade

Momentous events and life transformations arrive

Creating a cultural revolution, just trying to survive

The youngest President ever elected in this land

Sending JFK with a new generation’s eager hands

President Kennedy challenges a waiting nation

Landing on the moon brings wonder and elation

Civil Rights for “all” people lights a hope-filled beam

Marching to Washington to hear “I Have a Dream”

Ford creates a flashy and stunning sports car

Rolling out the Mustang, best ‘lil pony by far

The British invade with innovative music to bring

Introducing the Beatles, their tunes endlessly sing

Southeast Asia slowly captures more of a nation’s time

Making Vietnam, a catalyst filling emotions that climb

Rock music festival invites all to a muddy field—Woodstock

Continuing to sing his top hits, Elvis Presley’s movies rock

Beautiful music and worthy films reach out to all

Singing and acting, Julie Andrews’ fills the call

Television comes into its own with new innovation

Viewing “The Fugitive” becomes a nation’s fixation

Assassinations tear through a nation, they sadly ring

Losing two Kennedy’s and Dr. King, forever will sting

American Generals Quotes

Photo by Brett Sayles on Pexels.com

This quotations series will focus on four significant U.S. Army generals from World War II.  Each man contributed mightily to the overall success of the Allies war effort.  This outstanding quartet will feature:  George C. Marshall, George S. Patton, Douglas MacArthur, and Omar Bradley.  Postings will include two of these gentlemen at a time.

George C. Marshall (1880-1959)

When a thing is done, it’s done.  Don’t look back.  Look forward to your next objective.

George S. Patton (1880-1945)

Never tell people how to do things.  Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.

Glory in Creation

From Psalm 19:14:  “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”

Photo by Alexandr Podvalny on Pexels.com

Lofty heavens proclaiming

God’s awesome, mighty glory

Creation’s lasting showcase

His handiwork, our story

From day to day, night to night

Our Lord’s knowledge powers forth

His Spirit sustaining life

Praising His glory, henceforth

Covering soaring heavens

Faithful sunrise to sunset

Life manifests on this earth

Walking within God’s mindset

Nothing hidden from God’s eyes

Realm filled with wisdom and truth

His law always runs perfect

Commandments shout with pure truth

Coming forward, fear our Lord

Following Holy decrees

More precious than finest gold

Sweeter than honey, shall please

From Psalm 19:13:  “Keep back your servant also from proud thoughts; do not let them have dominion over me.  Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.

Life Well Lived

Seasoned with many years

This ancient man delights

Very little he fears

Life tastes humble highlights

Living alone these days

Outliving many friends

Memories still ablaze

Through color-filled zoom lens

Nearly century old

Blessed career long gone

Bride’s love never grows cold

Still waking up at dawn

Sits at kitchen table

Daily Bible reading

Praying through God’s cable

Lord’s “Bread of Life” feeding

Walking at nearby park

Bench invites him to sit

Lifetime’s blossoming spark

Dreaming shall never quit

Parked at life’s interchange

Lifetime’s poetry writes

Witnessing time’s changes

Faith and love holding tight

Charles Stanley Quote

The life we create is useful to God only if it is consistent with Jesus Christ’s foundation.

From 1 Corinthians 3:10-11:  “According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it.  Each builder must choose with care how to build on it.  For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ.”
