Will Self Quotes

Photo by Ivan Samkov on Pexels.com

I have a healthy appetite for solitude.  If you don’t, you have no business being a writer.

Always carry a notebook.  And I mean always.  The short-term memory only retains information for three minutes; unless it is committed to paper you can lose an idea forever.

Will Self (born 1961) is an English author and journalist.  He has written numerous published works, which include novels, shorter fiction collections, novellas, and non-fiction collections.

Countee Cullen Quotes

There is no secret to success, except hard work and getting something indefinable which we call “the breaks.”

For we must be one thing or the other, an asset or a liability, the sinew in your wing to help you soar, or the chain to bind you to earth.

Countee Cullen (1903-1946) was an American poet and novelist, who made a significant impact during the Harlem Renaissance.

From Proverbs 10:14:  “The wise lay up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool brings ruin near.”

Marianne Williamson (born 1950) is an American author who has written 14 books (at last count).

John Steinbeck Quotes

A man without words is a man without thought.

Ideas are like rabbits.  You get a couple and learn to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen.

John Steinbeck (1902-1968) was an American writer.  As an author of nearly three dozen books, he was recognized for his ability to bring realism into each one with keen perception and imagination.  In 1962, he earned the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Jimmy Buffet Quotes

Life is a journey that’s measured not in miles or years but in experiences, and the route our life takes is built not on roads but on songs.

Songwriters write songs, but they really belong to the listener.

Jimmy Buffet (born 1946) is an American singer and songwriter.  He has also written three number-one bestsellers.

Love is definitely a foundation, a spiritual connection that makes peace.

Tina Turner (1939-2023) was an American-born singer who became known as the “Queen of Rock ‘n Roll.”

Emma Goldman Quotes

Liberty will not descend to a people, a people must raise themselves to liberty.

People have only as much liberty as they have the intelligence to want and the courage to take.
