God did not make us perfect Christians in one stroke. He calls us as we are, and only His grace makes us what we are not.

From 1 Corinthians 15:9-10:  “For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I but the grace of God that is with me.

The richness of the Word of God ought to determine our prayer, not the poverty of our heart.

From Psalm 118;24:  “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

God does not give us everything we want, but He does fulfill His promises, leading us along the best and straightest paths to Himself.

From Proverbs 3:5-6:  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.

If Jesus returns tomorrow, then tomorrow I’ll rest from my labor.  But today I have work to do.  I must continue the struggle until it’s finished.

From Galatians 6:9:  “So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.”

It is very easy to overestimate the importance of our own achievements in comparison with what we owe others.

From 1 Peter 5:5-6:  “And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’  Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time.”

Only the man who follows the command of Jesus single-mindedly and unresistingly lets his yoke rest upon Him, finds his burden easy, and under its gentle pressure receives the power to persevere in the right way.

From Philippians 3:13-14:  “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have laid hold of it, but one thing I have laid hold of:  forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal, toward the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.”

The commandment of absolute truthfulness is really only another name for the fullness of discipleship.

From Proverbs 10:9:  “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever follows perverse ways will be found out.”

Christian brotherhood is not an ideal which we must realize; it is rather a reality created by God in Christ in which we may participate.

From Psalm 133:1:  “How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!”

Jesus wants to pray with us and to have us pray with Him, so that we may be confident and glad that God hears us.

From Psalm 147:12-15:  “Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!  Praise your God, O Zion!  For He strengthens the bars of your gates; He blesses your children within you.  He grants peace[a] within your borders; He fills you with the finest of wheat.  He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs swiftly.”

It is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.

From Colossians 3:15-17:  “And let peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body.  And be thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.  And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
