From a ridgetop garden
Nature’s treasure hides out
Offering its harvest
Flora lives all about
Flowers blooming early
Winter now disappears
Colorful bouquets reign
Sweetest fragrances cheer
Warming springtime sunshine
Changes the ground cover
New, tender shoots of grass
Young deer will discover

Trellis roof shelters grapes
Ripen in summer’s sun
Fill with juicy flavor
Birds enjoy tasty fun
Apple and black walnut trees
Shading nature’s grand shrine
Fruit dropping to the ground
Squirrels and deer will dine
Former home site lives on
Garden paradise waits
Coming alive each spring
Winking back at its mates

All of the photographs were taken during a couple of recent morning walk at Chestnut Ridge Metro Park, which is just minutes away from Canal Winchester, Ohio. The hilltop garden remains long after the house (built in the 1930s) was abandoned. I was blessed to spend several minutes photographing a very cooperative deer while I was quietly standing near a tree.

There is no finish line. When you reach a goal, find a new one.
A lot of times people look at the negative side of what they feel they can’t do. I always look on the positive side of what I can do.

Since God has rescued us from the bondage to sin, forgiven us, and brought us into His family, grateful obedience should be our response.
From Acts 5:17-21: “ Then the high priest took action; he and all who were with him (that is, the sect of the Sadducees), being filled with jealousy, arrested the apostles and put them in the public prison. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors, brought them out, and said, ‘Go, stand in the temple and tell the people the whole message about this life.’ When they heard this, they entered the temple at daybreak and went on with their teaching.”

As one of the original 13 American colonies under England’s rule, the American state of Pennsylvania has enjoyed a unique and dynamic history.
Here are a few quick facts about the Keystone State:
Pennsylvania was named after founder William Penn’s father, Admiral Sir William Penn. The state’s name honored (Penn) and the Latin word (Sylvania) which means woodlands.
When the colony of Pennsylvania was founded in 1681 by William Penn, he desired a place that offered a fair form of government as well as religious freedom. Known as the Keystone State, this nickname recognized the central location of Pennsylvania in relation to the rest of the 13 colonies.
Pennsylvania was the only original colony not bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. It has provided home for the largest concentration of Amish culture in the United States. They have accepted a simple way of life which has included plain clothing and a reluctance to use modern technology. Most of the Amish have lived in the region centered around the city of Lancaster.
In 1900 after selling his Lancaster Caramel Company, businessman Milton Hershey opened his Hershey Chocolate Company in the company town of Hershey, which was located about 30 miles northwest of Lancaster.
German immigrants arrived in Pennsylvania during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. They have been commonly called Pennsylvania Dutch. Most settled before 1800 in order to escape religious persecution.

There is no greater insight into the future than recognizing . . . when we save our children, we save ourselves.
Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.
