Waiting for its urgent call
Winter’s snow waiting to strike
Where is winter hosting fun?
Playing games in the Klondike
School children watch outside
Dreaming of a snow day soon
School’s steady beat marches on
Soon, everyone sings a new tune
Weather forecast predicts snow
Snowplows prepare for battle
But, this storm slides to the north
Hmm, snow dumps on Seattle!
Outside, waiting for a call
Snow shovel dreams of snowfall

Snow shovel dreams of snowfall,
And wrenched backs.

Ouch! Let’s all stay away from those dreaded sore backs. Winter has her eyes on Columbus, Ohio. Christmas Day will be coldest one experienced in 40 years.

It has been bad even on Vancouver island. Hummingbird feeders freezing. Poor Columbus.

It’s been a tough winter already in many places. In northeastern Montana, Fort Peck Lake is fully frozen for the first time since 1944.

I’ve been to Fort Peck Lake in October about 8 yrs. ago. It wasn’t frozen then, but I could see what a huge expanse it is, and to think of it all as frozen is mind-boggling.

Fort Peck Lake was frequently on my radar screen years ago. I lived and taught for 22 years in Circle, which is about an hour’s drive away.

I’ve driven through Circle coming from Glendive to Wolf Point.

We have lots of snowfall here.

Suzette, I can only imagine the amount of snow you’ve received. But my memories of Montana remind me about some big snowfalls.

It looks like we’ll miss our hoped-for snow next weekend. But if that’s the bad news, the good news is we’ll also miss the ice, and have to content ourselves with a hard freeze for a couple of days. But this is Texas, so…. a high of 29 on Friday, and a high of near 70 the next Wednesday!

Linda, this update sounds like positive news. No one ever looks forward to ice. Well, in Columbus, Ohio, we will experience the coldest Christmas Day in about 40 years.

Do stay warm. It looks as though much of the country’s going to be cold. Are you in store for that blizzard, too?

We will likely see blizzard conditions on Friday into Saturday. In northeastern Montana, Fort Peck Lake will be fully frozen for the first time since 1944.

So many times, we wait for a snowstorm that doesn’t come and then, seemingly without notice, it snows! Here in central VA, I have discovered that when the meteorologist says that there will be a few scattered snow flurries, we need to watch out!

Vickie, I hear you. Being from Montana, I’ve experienced my fair share of “real” winter storms. Around here, people become all excited when a few snowflakes begin to show up. No kidding aside, Columbus will experience its coldest Christmas Day in about 40 years.

My husband told me tonight that we have polar air coming in this weekend. It’s just in time for my trip back to MD which is always colder than VA.

Vickie, praying for your safe travels. Many years ago, my wife was snowed in for a night while traveling on Interstate 68 in Maryland (near Frostburg).

Thank you for your prayers.

That snow shovel would have had plenty to do these last coupla months in Ennis!!

I hear you Jan. My family in Bozeman and Billings echo your sentiments. So far, my snow shovel continues to wait for its call to action. Perhaps Friday will such a day.

Don’t wish too hard. You may get more than you bargained for!!

You are probably right. We are expecting the good (snow at Christmas), the bad (Arctic cold), and the ugly (severe wind and extreme wind chills). I heard today that Fort Peck Lake in northeastern Montana is fully frozen for the first time since 1944.

We had a ‘dusting’ of snow here

I think my snow shovel will need to be prepared and ready. The coming frigid cold may keep inside to warm up more often. Columbus will experience its coldest Christmas Day in 40 years.
