Hearing hope-filled words
Again and again
Different story
Always same message
Better tomorrow’s
Waiting in the wings
Whatever issue
Life’s hollow words sting
Today’s hope searching
Empty souls stare out
Yesterday shattered
Future dreams snuffed out
Confidence shaken
Sunrise uncertain
Starving for action
Grieving voices weep
Life struggles onward
Energy waning
From smallest ember
Hope’s flame still glowing

Beautiful, Richard. The only security I know is in Christ.

Sometimes the flame of hope does seem small, but there is always hope in Jesus. He is the true light! A great poem.

Susan, I appreciate your personal witness. When our hope rests with Jesus, we feel that flame growing. Peace be with you.

Eileen, thank you for sharing this poem. Given the darkness we see across this country each day, I used this poem as an outlet for some of my feelings. I hope others can read these verses with a similar application.

Download those fruits of the spirit into your heart – and as you eat them, digest them, and let them live in you, the hope light that seemed dim will become a beacon!! No more uncertain sunrise! ❤

Jan, I appreciate your words so much. I wrote this poem days after the school shooting in Texas. My reservoir of hope was dwindling.

I understand. Mine, too … and this bill that’s passed the house and has gone to the senate is eye wash! It doesn’t increase the age from 18 to 21 and it doesn’t ban assault weapons. Those are the two most crucial elements in my opinion.

I totally agree with your view. Given the dynamics of the Senate and the House, I will take a small step forward, with the expectation that more “action” needs to be done . . . and sooner than later. Also, I am totally against arming teachers in the classroom.

I am, too! More guns is not the answer.
