Ooooh – just looking at that poison ivy made me itch!

I must admit that my youngest brother probably inspired the poem about poison ivy. He unexpectedly tangled with it along his backyard fence many years ago. Let’s just say, it was a “very itchy” experience.

I got poison oak as a child of about 8 or 10. Some neighbors near our cabin in Felton (near Santa Cruz, CA) were burning a field of it and I breathed in the smoke. I got poison oak in my throat and nostrils and on my tongue. I got it in my eyes. They swelled. The tongue swelled. The throat swelled. I had trouble breathing, Mom had to take me to ER. I don’t remember what they did. But I survived it, of course. Needless to say, I am not a fan of poison oak or poison ivy!

Oh my! Your experience had to be a scary moment. I walk in some wooded areas at a couple of parks, and I am sure there are poisonous plants hiding in the foliage. I always stay on the path.
