Breath of Repentance

From Joel 2:1:  “Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on My holy mountain!  Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming, it is near.”

Living in shadows of darkness

Lost in depths of hope’s despair

Looking upward to heavens

Light gathers from daily prayer

Hearing call of Zion’s trumpet

Trust found on wilderness road

Returning to walk with Christ

Heart gathers His grace to reload

Following hope-filled voice of Christ

Faith’s gathered army of One

Witnessing forgiving light

Darkness flees before Father’s Son

Gathering to witness mercy

Truth received from Christ’s own hands

Abounding with steadfast love

Peace nourishes each grain of sand

Raising hope’s breath of repentance

Calvary’s transforming night

Pouring from Spirit’s waters

Christ returning with gathered light

From Joel 2:13:  “Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from punishment.”

Coming Together

From the words of American pastor and Christian author, Charles Swindoll:  “Thanksgiving is a time of quiet reflection . . . an annual reminder that God has, again, been ever so faithful.  The solid and simple things of life are brought into clear focus.”

National tradition

Year’s intentional pause

Coming together as one

With purposeful cause

Nation’s heart now gathers

Thanksgiving welcomes all

Putting aside differences

Mercy’s blessed call

Family’s homeward steps

Cherished goodness brightens

Strengthening tomorrow’s bonds

Grace shall enlighten

Love fills another home

Peace refreshes outlook

Praying with one single voice

Heaven’s warm chinook

Harmony writes new psalm

Tranquility’s fellowship

Sharing gratitude today

Praise from every lip

From Revelation 7:12:  “Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever!   Amen.”

John Flavel Quote

As all rivers are gathered into the ocean, which is congregation or meeting-place of all waters in the world:  so Christ is that ocean in which all true delights and pleasures meet.

From John 1:14:  “And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen His glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.”

John Flavel (c. 1627-1691) was an English Puritan pastor and Christian author.

Monday Memories: Evening with Family

Photo by Jonathan Petersson on Pexels.com

Sun sets on another day

Evening calls, wanting its way

Family gathers around

Home now, love and peace abound

Night sky envelopes the land

Stillness breathes on high command

Supper cooking, hunger calls

Mom’s spaghetti and meatballs

All hands on deck, helping mom

Frenzy soon returns to calm

Television calling out

Favorite show brings a shout

Mom crochets, sitting nearby

Dad reads book, about Shanghai

Final chores, homework to do

Soon slumber stirs up its brew

Before the last light goes out

Prayers praise God, so devout
