Featured Facts

The bobcat is the most abundant and wide-ranging wildcat in the United States.  Its name is derived from its stumpy (bobbed) tail.  Being primarily a nocturnal animal, males may roam up to 20 miles in a night.

Believe it or not, the alma mater of Big Sky Buckeye is Montana State University where the prized “Bobcat” is the school’s mascot.

  1. Very witty puzzler! I was just at book group the other night at the library and a newcomer who just moved into an old farmhouse said her husband took the tarp off the tractor and found a bobcat there. Fortunately, he was as scared as Michelle’s husband and ran away into the woods quickly.

    • Vickie, your description of the bobcat and the tractor takes me back to my years in Eastern Montana’s farming and ranching country. In the wintertime, it sometimes was a good idea to check under the hood before starting up a truck. One of the roaming cats just might be staying warm next to the engine.
