Life’s game passing by
Parked on lonely bench
Watching each inning
From this dugout’s trench
Endless time marching
Week following week
Absent from big plays
Life looking more bleak
Dreaming great moments
Where are they hiding?
Just needing one chance
Few hopes backsliding
Opportunity!
Finally knocking
Time to really shine
Eagerness rocking
Now just swing away
Life’s batter’s box calls
Confidence beaming
Stepping in, “Play ball!”
In the film, “The Natural,” starring Robert Redford, Roy Hobbs finally gets his big chance to step into the batter’s box. Here is the scene from the film. Indeed, life and baseball find ways to complement each other.
so true and RR sure is easy on the eyes 🙂

Ashok, you got it! I think life has treated me better than baseball did when I step in the batter’s box. Blessings to you!

Jim, thanks for reading. I have viewed Redford a few times in “The Natural.” Brimley is an excellent choice as the manager of the Knights. He sets up Hobbs’ first at bat with a classic line, “Knock the cover off the ball.” I should do a post about some of my favorite baseball movies.

Jim, you sound like a baseball fan. I grew up in a baseball community so I played a lot. I could never hit a curve ball.

Wow thanks for sharing that! Never played baseball but reading this made me appreciate and miss pre-Covid days of seeing people at the park playing
