Wilderness Backpack

Central Ohio’s Chestnut Ridge Metro Park (June, 2020).

Hidden in forest’s depths

Creator’s kingdom reigns

Moving with quiet breath

Feeding nature’s unbroken chain

Spontaneous landscape

Creator’s rhythm sings

Breathing beauty’s freshness

Witnessing all that summer brings

Trees towering above

Creator fills each scene

Overflowing with peace

Reaching to heavens, grass so green

Tranquil waters roam free

Creator’s grace gives back

Nourishing youngest plants

Equipping wilderness backpack

Busy traffic drives by

Immune to forest’s sigh

Missing treasures within

Creator frames sunset’s goodbye

Cherished Whisper Calls

Every wilderness journey

Another footprint unknown

Tomorrow always uncertain

Turning over each heavy stone

Lost among daylight’s darkness

With every tentative step

Smallest ember of light’s beacon

Finding vacant cabin’s doorstep

Door’s rusted hinges swing free

Waiting, barely hanging on

Vivid memories gather now

Warmly colored with worn crayons

Bushel of thoughts now arrive

Rekindled glow from fireplace

Yesterday no longer frozen

Gentleness cradles weathered face

Surrounded in breathless peace

Slumber’s cherished whisper calls

Weariness at last overcomes

Cuddled under nightly dream’s shawl

Faith’s Risen Place

From Joel 2:12-13:  “Yet even now, says the Lord, return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; rend your hearts and not your clothing.  Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from punishment.”

Even in our darkness

Hearing call from God above

Troubled waters’ rising tide

Vanquished by boundless love

Caught in sin’s wilderness

Mourning with daily fasting

Come now, embrace repentance

Trusted peace, long-lasting

Born in sin’s emptiness

Pursuing redemption’s door

God, create one more clean heart

Wandered away, no more

Broken righteous spirit

Escaping evil’s fire pit

Better days waiting ahead

Restored faith now submits

Hope’s journey pursues light

Thirsting for faith’s risen place

Glory waits at Calvary

Witnessed in Savior’s grace

From Psalm 51:10-11:  “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your holy spirit from me.”

Nature’s Voice

The photos shown with this poem come from my private collection.  They desire to complement each stanza with nature’s voice.

Toes filled with white beach sand

Eastern horizon brightens

Morning’s sunrise glowing

Feeling life’s burdens lighten

Face stings with winter’s cold

Mountain ski run offers thrills

Freshest powder waiting

Energy flowing downhill

Sunset viewed from front porch

Peace adds footnote to this day

Tomorrow always dreams

Thoughts sketching blessed essay

Morning’s wilderness lake

Fisherman’s heart set to cast

Man and nature as one

Sunrise ascends to full mast

Moments with nature’s voice

Thankful for each treasured gift

Every day welcomes home

Spirit no longer adrift
