Harry Ironside Quote

We would worry less if we praised more.

From Psalm 28:7:  “The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him.”

Harry Ironside (1876-1951) was a Canadian-born pastor, theologian, and Christian author.  This renowned Bible teacher wrote over 100 books, booklets, and pamphlets.

On Our Knees

From Psalm 32:7:  “You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with glad cries of deliverance.”

With faces toward the rising sun

Lord, share your mercy and forgiveness

Coming to the Cross, with repentance

Humbly laying our transgressions there

On our knees, breaking bread together

In remembrance, Jesus truly cares

Coming to the Cross, seeking its hope

With reverence, looking to our Lord

On our knees, drinking wine together

Singing with praise to His perfect chord

Coming to the Cross, stained with red blood

Accepting Christ as Lord and Savior

On our knees, praising God together

Walking with transforming behavior

With faces toward the rising sun

Lord, share your mercy and forgiveness

America’s Renewed Declaration

From John 8:32:  “And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Blessed land stretching from ocean to ocean

Spacious skies wink at fields of abundant grain

Framed in by towering, majestic mountains

God’s Grace covering the land like fruitful rain

Lady Liberty extends her message of hope

Calling out, only demanding to breathe free

Ensuring freedom for the huddled masses

Keeping her torch lite, from sea to shining sea

Asking God to mend a nation’s ills and flaws

Lifting praises up to the Father above

His glory be forever praised here below

Liberty and freedom shall ring, filled with love

Forgiving our nation’s errors and transgressions

Healing hearts of discord, peace now safeguarded

Leading this nation out of its dark wilderness

Remembering an old path, long discarded

Nation founded from scratch, with lasting vision

“All men are created equal” crying out

Endowed from the Creator, come certain rights

Life, liberty, pursuit of happiness shout

Taste His Goodness

David praises the greatness of God through Scripture found in Psalm 145, and these verses inspire this poem.

Each day life seems too normal

Monotonous and mundane

Beautiful bundle arrives

Hallmarks of our Lord’s domain

Blessing us each precious day

Spontaneous surprises

Praising our Father’s great name

Goodness comes in all sizes

Reaching depths of every sea

Loving each generation

Eclipsing highest heavens

Honoring God’s creation

Awesome and vast deeds come forth

Witnessing God’s mighty acts

Glorious splendor singing

Filling what life truly lacks

God’s everlasting kingdom

Harvesting abundant gifts

Faithful words stir greatest feats

Balancing life’s slips and shifts

Singing of God’s righteousness

Showering with compassion

Tasting His Holy goodness

Remembering His passion

Blessing His name forever

Amen

From Psalm 145:8:  “The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”

Harmony in Creation

This poem is inspired with Creation’s visions from Psalm 104 (the poem’s first 12 verses), and with a response from the hymn “My Life Flows On in Endless Song” (the poem’s final six verses).

Clothed with Holy majesty and honor

Heavens stretching out to infinity

Our Lord’s masterpiece endures forever

Clouds witness this sacred affinity

Earth’s foundation, never to be shaken

Lofty mountaintops look upon it all

Safe refuge waiting in fertile valleys

Creation’s spirit fulfilling each call

From flowing springs, animals quenching thirst

Every season following moon’s phases

Birds singing praise from highest tree branches

Rising and setting sun painting praises

God’s creation flowing as endless songs

Nothing shall ever shake its inner calm

Echoing across earth’s fruitful valleys

Scaling each mountaintop as joyful Psalms

Creation’s fountain forever springing

Beauty of the Lord’s harmony singing

From Colossians 1:16:  “For in Him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through Him and for Him.”

Here is the melody and lyrics to “My Life Flows On in Endless Song”:

Beholding a New Day

Our Heavenly Father, we rejoice and humbly receive your precious gift of a new day.  Our hopes burn brighter as we give thanks for your blessing of this gift.  Amen.

Emerging each morning, a new dawn

Waiting outside our door, neatly wrapped

Walking next to us, God understands

Bringing us love, never feeling trapped

Designing His gift, a new day calls

Witnessing God’s deeds, each day unfolds

Allowing us, to live out each day

Feeling His Grace, hearts never grow old

Guarding us during times of trouble

Opening gates each day, His stronghold

Trusting in God, never forsaken

Singing His praises, humble yet bold

Kneeling and praying, as this day ends

Rejoicing, in all our Father sends
