February is my birthday month.  These Haiku themes are self-reflective as I recently added another year to my previous 68.  The photos were selected from the WordPress library.

Not Ready Yet!

When he turned 60 years of age, Pete received his Golden Buckeye card in the mail.  Being officially granted “senior” status wasn’t all that he expected.

He really hadn’t put his card to use.  Quite frankly, he had forgotten about the card.  It was still hiding in his wallet, not much worse off than when it arrived in the mail.

One day, Pete wondered, “I don’t look and feel too bad.”  After all, he still walked outdoors and bicycled indoors.  He was in fairly good shape, so he thought.

Then his 80th birthday showed up, quite unannounced and definitely without any fanfare.

He guessed that everyone must be waiting to give him a rocking chair in a few years when his horsepower finally runs out.

The next morning, Pete looked into the mirror and told himself, “I’m not ready yet!”

Guest Post from Mrs. Buckeye: “A Very Special Day”

I recently enjoyed my birthday, and my wife blessed me with the gift of this delightful and loving poem.  She is an incredible writer in her own right.  As I read this poem, I definitely feel 65 years young.

It was a very special day.

The family and the world were so blessed.

It’s still a very special day.

We need to celebrate it to the best!

The Father gave a precious boy,

to grow and learn, and become a young man.

He was meant to bring precious joy,

as God teaches us daily that we can!

This precious boy became that man.

From God, and parents, and his teachers too,

he learned and grew to have a plan,

showing young minds too, all that they could do!

A proud and successful career,

as a teacher, coach, and sports A D, too.

He served boldly then forty years,

guiding his students on as they pursued!

Not only did his work stand out,

but, he helped raise his three beautiful girls,

to ladies of faith, there’s no doubt.

His example shines out into the world!

He is a very special man,

son and brother, husband, dad and grandpa,

A teacher who loves Jesus, and

a man who worships our God with much awe!

It was a very special day,

when our precious Father gave him his birth.

We celebrate this special day.

God’s gift of life filled with His Holy worth!

A Daughter’s Special Day

Today is the birthday of a very special woman that I know

My youngest daughter has been a pleasure to see her grow

Daughters are a gift and a blessing from God

He brings them to life with a breath and a nod

My thoughts remember joyous and special days

As she spends her precious time always at play

School days are full of exciting learning and plentiful fun

Constantly smiling to brighten another day like the sun

Academics, music, and athletics fill her heart and soul

Her achievements have been quite remarkable and full

As a teacher now, she guides and molds young minds

I especially hope that her day goes without any binds

Her sisters will leave her special greetings for sure

Their thoughts and wishes will be loving and pure

She has added an awesome husband to her astonishing life

Now she shares much of her daily time being his loving wife

How I wish that I could visit and be with her right now

To tell her of the proud feelings that her father feels—Wow!
